Is there always a Shirlington pit stop, or is that new? This will be first BTWD since moving to Alexandria. This should make it straightforward for me to get to three pitstops – Shirlington, Crystal City, and Canal Park. I was going to do Crystal City and Canal Park last year, but due to the weather only did Canal Park.

They usually do some prizes at the OT one right there off King at City Hall–it’s worth stopping by.

I live in northwest Alexandria, right near Fairlington. Going to OT would add a lot of time, and make it difficult for me to get to Canal Park before they wrap up. Its too bad, because I would get to see the BPAC folks, local pols, etc. But the reality is that though I live in Alexandria, my biking life is very centered in Arlington. Because, geography.

Ahh, for some reason I thought you lived closer to Huntington. Yah that makes sense then.

This year I think may take the day off work, but hop around to various ones. Or go in real late. Need to burn leave time anyway.

Might the lack of good bike infrastructure in your part of Alexandria also play a part?

If you are willing to head south, there will be a BTW pit stop at the Mark Center

Yes as far as generally riding in Alexandria. No as far as getting to the East side of Alexandria. While the bike infra in NW Alexandria is certainly lousy, I in fact have some reasonable routes to Old Town (4MRT to MVT, and I might try 4MRT to Potomac Yard or 4MRT to Commonwealth) Better infra on upper King or on Braddock might give me a more direct route, but it would not be night and day. Its just we are as far as you can get from OT and still be in Alexandria, I think.

But Mark Center is both in the wrong direction, and I think would involve some uncomfortable routes. I am not planning on taking the day off, so I think 3 stops all more or less along the way will be all I have time for.

Remember that Crystal City is running a Bike to Work Week, Monday through Friday that week.
