I rode by my polling place on the way to work this morning. I’m lucky, my district is really small compared to the other two that vote at my polling place, so while their lines were hundreds of people, mine was only 5 or so. In and out in less than 10 minutes.

Guess I won’t be getting a free beer at Cap City Brewery but my Jamis feels very patriotic now. Did a paper ballot again after years of touch screen just for that Norman Rockwell experience.

I voted absentee, like a bawss. Actually, it was just cuz I moved to VA from DC after the registration deadline, but I still like to think I’m a bawss.

I rode to my polling place first thing this morning, but I forgot to Strava it. So basically I voted for nothing.

Yep, rode to the polling place, but did not start the GPS so my N Madison KOM didn’t get recorded ;) There was a long line at 6 am, but I was out by 7 am. There were three other bikes in the racks when I got there, and I saw one guy in a cycling outfit waiting in line. When I left there was one bike still there, but it had flat tires and didn’t look like it had moved in some time. :P

We rode to our polling place. Arlington Arts Center. 30 minute wait at the second smallest precinct in Virginia at 8 am. For once, I wasn’t the only one in there when voting.

They have no bike rack so we locked up our bikes together next to a wall. (After every election, I write them and let them know they should have racks. Last time, I rolled it inside, but the side door was locked and the line was too long inside.)

We walked in and the woman behind us asked while point to our legs, “where do you get those yellow bands?” I replied as I held up my leg, “Bike Arlington!”. She looked confused and then laughed because she thought the yellow leg bands were required to be in line like identifiers or something. I don’t think she had her coffee yet….

As we wound our way around, to their credit, the arts center did have CaBi pamplets on their counter.

I have to admit, we have one of the best places to vote. It’s set up in the “Tiffany Room” with large Tiffany stained glass windows lit up in the morning sun and artwork to gaze at whilst waiting in line.

My ride to the polls at 6:30 this morning is best described as: brisk. My clothing kept me at the right temperature, a balance between freezing and sweating. Also, using the paper ballot saved me about 15+ minutes in line. I don’t get why so many people prefer the electronic route since the paper ballots get scanned immediately.

I wonder the same thing every year, especially since the experts in the field are fairly unanimously scared of the electronic voting machines. But for some reason people prefer blinking lights over speed, simplicity, and security.

Yeah, me too. I don’t care either way, but there was a long-ish line for the electronic machines and zero lines for paper ballots, so I did paper.

I love taking my helmet in when I vote, though this year I voted early, since I didn’t know whether I’d be in labor (I’m not). I did have an OB appointment, and relished taking my helmet in to the OB’s office with my HUGE belly.

I almost went with the paper ballot because there were no lines. Good thing I didn’t. The machine to scan the paper ballots kept jamming up, and the poor older gent who was trying to fix it wasn’t making much progress by the time I left…

Save plenty of time to time to vote this afternoon, if possible — this line in Greenbelt MD took me 90 minutes this morning.

Seriously! We got to our place at 6:20 this morning and waited 1:45 in a long snaking line. Voting itself, whether by paper or machine was fast. By the time we left, the line was TWICE as long as it was when we arrived. We would have biked there, but it was faster to walk the 100 yards.

I live two blocks from my polling center. As I was biking over at 5:57am I saw hordes of voting masses lumbering towards the Library. I put in a few hard turns of the pedals, cyclocrossed dismounted up the stairs, locked up and jumped in line ahead of the slow poke walkers. Still had to wait an hour…
