I found this article from April 2014, which indicates that the bikeshare system isn’t that popular with local residents. Probably because there are only two stations.
SmartBike DC wasn’t that popular because it only had about 10 stations. If you can’t ride to that many places, there isn’t much use for the system. (Bike rental shops like Bike ‘n’ Roll work differently because they have longer rental periods.) A two-station bikeshare system seems more of a joke than anything else. I don’t understand the point either.
I visited Savannah this past March, but the CAT Bike system was shut down for that particular weekend. So I got my BAFS points by (1) going on a bike tour, and (2) borrowing one of my hotel’s loaner bikes.
In general, I found Savannah to be an easy place to bike: the historic district is mostly flat, and there are SCAD students biking everywhere so drivers generally know to look out for cyclists.
