This is a good point — one of the moms on the C&O trip had a step through hybrid bike (yep, she rode all 184 miles on it — talk about ELITE) and we couldn’t fit it on our rack or any of the other vehicles’ racks. We had a pickup truck at our disposal for ferrying bikes both ways so it was not a problem for us, but if this is a consideration for you, keep it in mind.
