ParticipantRight across the street from HUD, the big GSA building (7th and D SW) has about six bike cages and two wheel bender racks inside the garage, accessible only to employees. I am not aware of any public bike parking.
I find it amusing that they inspect the cars going into the building (you have to show a badge, then they look under the car with a mirror and inspect the trunk) but I show my badge and roll right in on the Xtracycle with my bags packed full of whatever.

ParticipantUSDOT HQ at 1200 New Jersey Avenue SE (corner of M Street)
The US DOT HQ has bike racks available to the public at the corners of M street SE with NJ and with 4th. I think that is DOT’s doing, not the Capitol Riverfront BID’s, though I am not 100% sure. There is also bike parking on Tingey, I think provided by the Forest City Properties, developer of The Yards.
There is also bike parking across 4th street by the new 1212 building, at each end of the new Harris Teeter. There is bike parking in the garage available to employees – I guess visitors to US DOT could use it as well, but that would be kind of an annoyance as they would first have to get their visitor pass at the NJ Ave entrance (presumably having locked their bike at the public parking) and THEN take the bike down to the garage.

ParticipantIs there public bike parking anywhere within a stone’s throw of the White House / Old Exec bldg? I know there’s parking inside the security gate, but don’t think I’ve everseen anything anywhere nearby.

I was thinking all those “bike rack fences” they put up after the last fence jumper were a play to get the White House listed as a bike friendly business!
I would discourage using terms like “stone’s throw” when discussing the White House complex. They’re a bit touchy now.

ParticipantName and location of the building: Humphrey Building, 200 Independence Ave SW (HHS)
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public?: yes, although they’re pretty close to the building so unlikely the public would use them.
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others?: yes, underground, although getting a pass to use them is HIGHLY restricted–typically only SES get the passes.Name and location of the building: Switzer Bulding, 330 C St SW (HHS and GSA currently have offices here)
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public? yes, outside on the sidewalk. Not very secure.
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others? noName and location of the building: Patriots Plaza 1, 2, 3 (355 E St SW and adjoining addresses. HHS, Dept of Ag, and maybe others have offices here)
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public? Yes, free to use in the public parking garage below the building, although they are not advertised outside anywhere so I’ve only seen employees use them.

ParticipantName and location of the building: Senate Office Buildings – C St NE b/n Delaware Ave NE & 2nd St NE
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public?: Yes, on the N side of 2nd – one at Delaware and one at 1st. There may be others on the E/W sides of the blocks, but not on the building side of the street. If you try to lock your bike to signs on the building side of the street you will be quickly redirected to the other side of the street
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others?: Yes, in the Hart garage (near 2nd St NE) – secure, indoor bike parkingName and location of the building: Federal Reserve Board – Eccles & Martin Buildings, b/n 20th & 21st and Constitution & Virginia Aves NW
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public?: Last I tried (a year + ago), you could lock your bike to any sign without a problem. There are proper bike racks on 21st close to Virginia, beside the tennis courts, not the Martin Building
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others?: Yes, in the Martin garage (20th & C St NW) – secure, indoor bike parkingName and location of the building: Federal Reserve Board – NY Ave Building (just west of 17th)
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public?: I believe you can lock to signs without a problem, but I don’t remember bike racks
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others?: Yes, in the garage (20th & C St NW) – secure, indoor bike parkingName and location of the building: International Square – b/n 18th & 19th NW and I & K NW
Are there bike racks on the property that are available to the public?: Definitely can lock to signs, and I believe there are a number of racks scattered around the block
Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others?: Not that I know of, but that might change soon.October 8, 2014 at 7:11 pm #1011764Harry Meatmotor

I am pulling this data out not to show a map representation but to show the magnitude of the Federal facilities that are embracing public bike parking. The end result will be tabular so I figured collecting the data in a similar manner would be best.
A secondary reason is that my age divided by 5 is a two digit number. You whippersnappers!

ParticipantI’m not sure I understand the question but at Constitution Center, across the street from HUD, there are bike racks in the garage accessible only to employees and contractors. The building has only federal tenants, that I know of, but I don’t know about the federal building part.

ParticipantConstitution Center is privately owned.

Are there bike racks on the property that are accessible only to employees or others? noAdding to that: the Cohen Bldg (330 Independence Ave. SW) — VOA and HHS
Bike racks available to the public — Yes – a wheel bender in the street level parking lot, and a few loops on either side of the main entrance (on C St. SW)
Employee only racks: None that I know of.BTW: to my knowledge, getting a permit to park a bike at HHH does not require being SES, but does require one to completely forfeit one’s Transhare benefit (which is not a very viable option for most of us who metro even occasionally.)

This is the first apparent instance of treating bikes like cars! Every other office seems to offer free parking for bikes without regard to transit benefit eligibility. Hmm.
