I submitted your comment to our planners/engineers and have already heard back:

“There is a marked loading zone there near the Metro elevator and many trucks do correctly use it. They also don’t park as close in as they could and stick out into the bike lane. That, along with the cars and trucks parking illegally, is for parking enforcement to deal with. We’ve already signed much of that area as somewhere vehicles are not allowed to be.

FYI – 2100/2200/2300 Clarendon does have a separate loading dock which is located under the building from the Veitch St entrance.”

    and

“The area right in front of our building is going to be rebuilt in the near term. The right turn slip lane is going away, and the “pork chop” island is being enlarged and reworked. That should help with some of the problems…But trucks parked in the bike lane is a police enforcement issue…I’ll bring this to Design Team next week to see if there is something else that can be done.”

Sounds like taking it up with the ACPD might be the best recourse.

Thanks so much–I wanted to make sure I was being reasonable. I’m going to more carefully observe how far the trucks are into the bike lane (they are certainly close enough where to pass I have to go into the right lane–it is hard to safely pass there as I would most othe rplaces because of the reasons I whined about above). If I confirm that this is continuing and as bad as I think it is, I’ll put in a call. Good to know improvements are coming to that area too!

This problem is continuing, so I put in a call to the non-emergency police number yesterday (as directed by the county). If anyone else is noticing a problem here, please call also.

This is part of my commute as well and I agree, it’s a hazardous section. Thanks DB for posting, I’ll put in a call as well.
