Clearing snow off bike infrastructure in NYC is spotty at best. Most bike lanes have not been cleared. The Avenues bike lanes (1st, 2nd, & 6th) have long cleared stretches, but may be snowed in mid-block. On 6th, it appeared no effort was made to clear the lane above 48th St all the way to Central Park. The Queensboro Bridge was cleared, but not the western approach along 61 St. The Pulaski Bridge between Queens and Brooklyn was not cleared, but the Williamsburg Bridge was. All three lanes of the Central Park loop were cleared and several sections were actually dry!

#BikeInfrastructure – Awesome sign for both motorcycle and bike parking at this medical building garage off Shady Grove Road, but they need more bike racks!

The Crescent St Cycle Track in Queens had real issues with frozen melt-off. One of the problems with most of the cycle track is that there are parked cars between it and the street travel lane. Both were plowed, but the snow was piled on the cars and the melt-off runs across the cycle track to the gutter and freezes overnight. Very slick in the shade.

Don’t die in a road accident. Use Shirlington/Park Fairfax/Fairlington Pedestrian Bridge over I-395 near Shirlington.

The 9th and 10 Ave Bike Lanes in Hell’s Kitchen were a bit of a mess, not plowed with the fresh slop. There were still some piles from Monday’s snow storm too.

But not if it has recently frozen over, since it is never maintained, AFAIK.

A portion of the bike lane on M St between 18th and 19th St was “expanded” last year. It’s to give pedestrians more space to walk on that crowded stretch of M St as they would often end up walking in the bike lane defeating the purpose of it. Not a problem right now with many people still working from home!

#BikeInfrastructure on Shady Grove Road in Rockville – Why does a bike lane need to start anywhere? Can’t it just be so we can ride anywhere?

Intrigued by the recent inauguration of a new trail in my hood that was posted on another thread by bikesnick , I went out to explore the “Scott’s Run Trail” and who do I run into other than bikesnick himself, who kindly led me to the trails portal at Westgate Elementary School on Magarity Road in the Pimmit Hills section of West Falls Church. This new paved path now provides a car-free connection between Pimmit Hills and the McLean Metro Stop on the Silver Line.

I didn’t lock up here, so I don’t know how practical they are, but these bike racks are cute.
