Even though there is a “Bike Lane Ends” sign, this is so wrong.

ParticipantThere are very few dedicated bike lanes in downtown Madrid…and even then cars park in them regularly!

Participant#BikeInfrastructure – This bicyclist/pedestrian only Unity Bridge connects Rockville Pike and the Lincoln Park residential neighborhood, crossing over railroad tracks and located by the Flagship Car Wash on 355.

ParticipantThe Ben Franklin Bridge is a pretty sweet piece of infrastructure with some solid bike/pedestrian aspects.
There’s two wide, raised pedestrian/bike walkways alongside both directions of the bridge. 676 goes along it, and also the PATCO rapid transit line. Things that I like:
- Wide — doesn’t feel like you’re going to fall into traffic, like the Teddy (it’s wide enough for a car, if you look closely at my picture you’ll see a compact police on the ped walkway)
- Raised — you’re well above the highway and the train, so you’re a little isolated from all the noise and smells
- Convenient — I think the only bike-able option to cross the Delaware south of here is the Cape May/Lewes ferry, ~118 miles away (I’m planning out a big loop for the spring). You do have the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge about 11 miles north though
I want to see the zipper machine in action, so I’m going to have to spend some more time up there.

ParticipantA CityBike station at Marcus Garvey Park, E 120th St at Mt Morris Park W in East Harlem. There is a left side bike lane on E 120th St from St Nicholas Ave to 1st Ave (9 blocks). There is a wide area between the parking and sidewalk on Mt Morris, not mark as a bike lane or cycle track.

Pretty bridge – I’ll have to put that on my list to check out next time I’m in that area, but YIKES that’s a lot of switchbacks! [emoji15]

And some trivia: when completed in 1926, the Ben Franklin Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Participant#bikenewdeal – The pedestrian and bike crossing of the New York Central (Amtrak) for the NYC Greenway at Inwood Hill Park from Dyckman Fields. The trail continues at the level of the bridge, The wheel tray was wide enough for my four inch fat bike tires. This was probably built as part of the mid-1930s WPA project. There were several similar rail crossings near me in Germany where you had to either roll or carry your bike up/down stairs.
