ParticipantLike consularrider and Serdar I rode today over the newly inaugurated W&OD bridge over Lee Highway in Arlington/Falls Church VA. Here is the Arlington Now news blurb on it, which includes the official VDOT press release re it’s grand opening on Friday, March 12th:
“The new W&OD Trail bridge over Lee Highway in East Falls Church is now open.”
“VDOT announced the opening of the $6 million bridge Friday morning, touting “a safer, faster crossing over busy Route 29.” Previously, trail users would have to wait to cross Lee Highway at a crowded intersection, next to ramps to and from I-66 and Washington Blvd.”

Participant#BikeInfrastructure from today’s ride: East Falls Church Metro Station, which once had the highest bike-to-Metro usage. Today there were three bikes in the multiple racks under I-66, two Cabis in the docks, both ebikes, and one bike in the new fancy-schmancy-long delayed bike facility. I understand that EFC is one of the stations WMATA is proposing to close. This would take me from having a bike-friendly station 0.6 miles from our house to having to go to the less than bike-friendly (high theft, crappy parking, but on a bike route) Ballston Station, two miles away. One an easy walk, the other not.

WMATA receives $1.4 billion under the American Recovery Act so should not need to enact the drastic service cuts proposed.

ParticipantI could tell it’s been a long while since I rode up the Capital Crescent Trail, but I didn’t it had been that long. The Neal Potter Plaza was dedicated on 11/03/2018 at mm 4.5 near the River Road overpass. I really don’t remember seeing it before.
