Today I really appreciated what a treasure the W&OD Trail is. It was so easy to roll out of bed late, and with no planning or preparation, get a century ride in.

#BikeInfrastructure – Sign and sharrows on Washingtonian Blvd in Gaithersburg, MD – Maybe the yellow on the sign will help motorist really notice.

2nd St, SW Cycle Track along Ft McNair near Audi Field. You’ve got to wonder if anybody bothers to inspect these paving jobs. This one is almost unrideable and it goes for the full block from P to Q.

#BikeInfrastructure – Signs on medical building in Congressional Plaza in Rockville indicating bike parking location, which is usually not easy to find. The bike racks were in an uncovered alley, so it was not perfect for today’s rainy weather.

I see you are back in VA. Come to coffee club tomorrow in Pentagon Row.

Yes, that repave is new, and awful.

I think they recently installed this bike repair station when they renovated this part of the MBT for the new Alethia Park by Q St. It’s also a nice park with lots of open area and a nice entrance to the MBT going eastbound. Handy to know in case you ever need to look for tools or need to pump your tire!

#BikeInfrastructure – This bike room was always one of my favorites at the Wiehle-Reston East metro station. Hope it’s being used well for temporary storage.

Another what were they thinking on bike infrastructure (bike route signage).

Corner of N 15th St and Taylor St near W-L High School. Taylor St dead-ends in about 100 feet with no Custis Trail access. The Custis Trail access was about a half block back.

#bikeinfrastructure (New2Me) – East Falls Church Metro Station

This was under construction forever and a day, but now open for use … but no one is using it much during the Pandemic, and now WAMTA is proposing to close the EFC Metro station altogether as a cost-cutting measure to balance the budget, it may not get much use at all for a long time to come:-/

RVA Bike Share system. This was actually my first ever time riding a bike share anywhere. I redocked twice in my two hour ride. They have a mix of 8 speed manual and one speed ebikes.

Back in NOVA I stopped to enjoy my coffee and hamantaschen from Northside Social Falls Church at this rest stop with bike rack, repair stand, and pump on the W&OD near mm 7 (Citizens Bridge and the Railroad Cottages).

The new bike lane lane on 21st St that goes from Tonic to the State Department. It nicely intersects with the relatively new one on G St that goes crosstown from New Hampshire to the World Bank. The G St one is so wide that it’s like a bike Express lane!

The new W&OD bridge over US 29 at East Falls Church: Not “open” at 9:30 am yesterday, a couple barrels were blocking each end and a worker was using a blower to spruce it up. He said it was supposed to be open at noon. At 1:20, the were several workers in the area, and several suits on either end, but no barrels. As I rode west to east I quoted one of the Bards of Liverpool, “I now declare this bridge open.”
