Whew! I’m glad I checked on this post. I thought we were meeting somewhere in DC also. Not sure why I thought that, but I did.
That’ll require a bit of extra time in the morning, but at least I know where I’m going.
Ha! Same here! I thought that it was going to be a random Starbucks new Farragut/Dupont, not a less-than-sleaze-ride from my apartment. Good thing I’ll have that “warm up” ride to Fall Church first.
Hell, I might juuust might be able to convince my husband to come along for this. :p

ParticipantResponse to this ride has been overwhelming. I’m counting 22 attendees so far. Clearly you are all people that want to see three, (YES THREE!) sites of Presidents associated with my home state of Illinois. It doesn’t get much more EPIC than that. In case it changes Kitty’s RSVP, there will be no mention of Michigan on this ride.
I’ve worked to put together a route that tries to accomplish a few things:
1. Includes a bit of quirky, useless information (How is wonton soup related to the assassination of a President?)
2. Visits some sites you may have passed by but didn’t notice (What’s that big stone block on Pennsylvania Avenue?)
3. Explore sites people may have not visited before or knew about (include me!)
4. Tie the past to the presentHere’s the list of stops:
Deepthroat garage in Rosslyn
Theodore Roosevelt Island
John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts
Watergate Hotel
Lafayette Square (White House)
Trump Hotel
National Archives
Wok and Roll in Chinatown
Capitol Building
Titanic Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
LBJ Memorial Grove
The Airport
Dairy Godmother (This was planned as an awesome ice cream stop before it closed)
Jones Point LighthouseFor the Murlanders intimidated by the great impenetrable wall that we respectable Virginians have erected to keep you out of Rosslyn, I’d suggest meeting us at the parking lot of Theodore Roosevelt Island at approximately 11:20. The next best place would be at the Kennedy Center on the Potomac River Side around 11:35ish
I should have the actual route map posted tomorrow.
Since we will have such a large group with some street riding in DC and Alexandria as well as some trail riding, Komorebi has graciously volunteered to help with sweeping as it will be challenging to keep the entire group together in city traffic.

23 it is! If there’s anyone else planning to join that haven’t already said so, please sound off.

ParticipantUnfortunately, I’m going to have to miss the ride.
Playing golf with my daughter (who can beat me) in the morning.

Looks like it will be a great day for golf. Hope she doesn’t beat you too bad.

ParticipantIf I’m coming up Wilson, do I have access to the Starbucks if I turn left on Oak? Or do I have to go up further and then come back down one the many stupid one way roads that you dumb Virginian’s have?!?!?

You can turn left on Oak. It goes both ways. Northern Virginia is very progressive that way.

Thank you! I should be able to meet at either one of those places, or at some point in between.

I’m hoping to crawl out of bed in time to meet Sunyata and Komorebi in Shirlington to bike to pancakes first too…pancakes + bike ride seems like the best day ever.

ParticipantJudd, I’m really looking forward to the bike polo match you have planned for us on this ride. Front lawn of the White House?
