Schedule didn’t permit joining for the whole trip, but I explored my favorite parts of the C&O Canal in Georgetown then looped home via Ohio Drive. Malmaison is a gem, in an ideal location at the CCT trailhead.

which is almost never open. It doesn’t open until 9am on weekdays making is useless as a pre-work coffee meeting location. Other than that though, it is lovely!

I stopped off one afternoon on the ride home for an espresso, around 4:30. All the doors and windows were open on a beautiful day and people were milling about. The waiter told me they were just setting up for a private event, but I think it was because dirtbag scofflaw cyclist.

Cyclelife used to be down that way and you could stop in for a ‘spro morning or afternoon. I miss that, but luckily the city isn’t devoid of ‘spropportunities.

The pics make me even more jealous of your ride. Hopefully it will happen again.

To top off the awesome ride, Komorebi, Judd and I had a FlyBy* by Anderson Cooper while getting a post-ride lunch at Moby Dicks in Georgetown.

Thanks Judd and Komorebi for putting the ride together–it was a ton of fun!!!

It didn’t open until 9 on Sunday, which I thought was kind of weird. We had actually intended to meet earlier but pushed back to allow Malmaison to open. The decor is pretty neat and the coffee bar food was tasty. They could probably capitalize a lot more on all of the trail traffic with some concerted effort to let all of the trail users know that they have a coffee bar inside. I wouldn’t have known just by passing it.
