I have zero desire to ride the towpath in the rain and mud, so I’ll meet you all at the lockhouse. Assuming that the forecast remains better for Saturday morning than afternoon, I’m also probably going to leave earlier than the scheduled noon rollout. If anyone wants to join my splinter group, I plan to leave from Best Buns in Shirlington at 8:00 a.m., and take the WOD if White’s Ferry is running, or MacArthur/River Rd. if not.
I have a bike, it’s named Maxwell. 30 miles on the C&O canal.
I’m going to scope the canal before meeting up to see if it’s a quagmire. My inclination right now is still to take the towpath. Bring your fenders people!

ParticipantSplinter groups, pontoons, knee high mud, arks…. this is going to be way too much fun! What next, rubber chickens? My personal goal is to get covered in enough rain and mud that I look as bad ass as Casey Bailey during a gravel cross race.

Can you report here before 10:00am? I will bring different bikes depending on the route taken.

It looks like the rain is going to be lighter today. Sarah Bee is up for getting dirty on the canal, so bring the fattie bike.

ParticipantToday’s ride out was fine, but the ride back tomorrow promises to be a mess!

ParticipantIt’s been a long time since I’ve done a ride with miles of puddles and bone soaking rain. Because it wasn’t cold, I actually enjoyed it

Good to see you made it back to Georgetown. They looked rather soaked when we passed them. Kudos to all five of you for riding today.

ParticipantI came home covered in rain, bug bites, mud, road spray, and things I’d rather not think about, but I had a blast anyway. Thanks for organizing, Judd!
Arriving at the lockhouse on Saturday, still looking fresh:
KWL rocking the fattie and the front rack:
Relaxing before the storm rolled in:
drevil making friends with the neighbors:
