What bag did you go with over the front wheel?

A Sea to Summit Air Stream dry bag on top of a Surly 24-Pack Rack. I weighed using a low rider rack to place the sleeping bag and tent lower, but then wouldn’t have been able to mount the bottle cages. If we make a beer run to Poolesville, that Surly rack will come in handy.

A beer run is mandatory.

You going to haul out the empties?

Beer cans are made of aluminum, some bike frames are made of aluminum. Also, people make bikes out of bamboo, how hard can it be? Make a big-ass fire and turn your empties into a new bike, and then ghost-ride it out.

ParticipantOK. That does it. I’m throwing the fenders on the Pugsley. I, for one, will arrive at the lockhouses without a mud stripe up my backside.

If it looks like the towpath will be miserably muddy, I plan to take this road/ferry route instead: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27659112.

Make sure to check the White’s Ferry FB page – they do sometimes shut down if the weather/water warrant.

ParticipantIf thunderstorms hit, it is advisable to get inside something sealed. Since you won’t have a car to retreat to, you may want to figure out where the nearest building (not shelter) is.

I’m keeping a close eye on the weather. Right now there are possible thunderstorms with very light rain. Sunday looks like light rain. No changes to the plan right now but please stay tuned to this thread for any last minute updates.
I think everyone is experienced with riding in the rain, so we will hope for no lightning. If the canal is a mess from rain, I’ll plan on taking Komo’s road route.
The lockhouse should be able to accommodate everyone sleeping indoors flop house style.
