Why: In Taiwan, China, and other parts of Asia, Mid-Autumn Festival is the second biggest holiday of the year, after Chinese New Year. It’s a time to get together with friends and family, appreciate the full moon, and eat moon cakes. It’s also a good excuse to visit two of my favorite places for Asian food in Northern Virginia.
When: Sunday, September 23. (Yes, yes, I know that this is technically the day before this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival.)
Where: Meet at Best Buns in Shirlington at 10:30 a.m. if you want coffee. We’ll roll out at 11:00 a.m. and have lunch at The Block, an Asian food hall in Annandale. Afterwards, we’ll head to Good Fortune in the Eden Center, a Chinese-Vietnamese supermarket that sells moon cakes and other Asian groceries. The route is about 19 miles, mostly on trails or bike lanes, but also on a few busier roads.
Who: anyone who wants in on the deliciousness! Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop.
What: bring money for lunch and a lock. I will also be bringing my panniers so that I can stock up on tasty Asian groceries at Good Fortune.
