Why: In Taiwan, China, and other parts of Asia, Mid-Autumn Festival is the second biggest holiday of the year, after Chinese New Year. It’s a time to get together with friends and family, appreciate the full moon, and eat moon cakes. It’s also a good excuse to visit two of my favorite places for Asian food in Northern Virginia.

When: Sunday, September 23. (Yes, yes, I know that this is technically the day before this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival.)

Where: Meet at Best Buns in Shirlington at 10:30 a.m. if you want coffee. We’ll roll out at 11:00 a.m. and have lunch at The Block, an Asian food hall in Annandale. Afterwards, we’ll head to Good Fortune in the Eden Center, a Chinese-Vietnamese supermarket that sells moon cakes and other Asian groceries. The route is about 19 miles, mostly on trails or bike lanes, but also on a few busier roads.

Who: anyone who wants in on the deliciousness! Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop.

What: bring money for lunch and a lock. I will also be bringing my panniers so that I can stock up on tasty Asian groceries at Good Fortune.

Ooo ooo! Let me see if I can talk Mr. Kitty into this. It might be a mileage stretch for him, but I think he can do it.

Mr. Bee [emoji219] is in too. Sharing of moon cakes may be a stretch for him- but I think he can do it.

I will try to make the ride, as Moon [emoji279] cakes may be the missing ingredient of my recovery program

Interested. Let me see how I feel after my ride the night before (Papillon’s Monuments at Night Ride Redux).

I have to be out in Merrifield (Mosaic) Sunday morning. If I leave there around 11, I’m hoping I can find you and meet you at The Block, and ride back to the Eden Center and Shirlington with the group.

Let me know if you’d like to be added to my Garmin LiveTrack, which will send you an email with a link showing where we are in real time. Same offer goes for anyone who wants to meet us mid-ride. Just PM me your email address.

I plan to ride with you and my husband might join us depending on the football schedule. I don’t like rain so I’ll stay home if its more than a drizzle.

I am planning to come, and it looks like riding from the start will work for me, but I would like the livetrack anyway, because QOTM is interested in meeting us (not by bike sadly) in Annandale.

Sure. Should I send the LiveTrack to your email address, or would QOTM prefer to get the LiveTrack at a different email address?

Also, for anyone who is nervously eyeing Sunday’s weather forecast, I’m planning to go ahead with this ride unless it’s pouring out — and maybe even then. Bring your rain gear.
