Why: In Taiwan, China, and other parts of Asia, Mid-Autumn Festival is the second biggest holiday of the year, after Chinese New Year. It’s a time to get together with friends and family, appreciate the full moon, and eat moon cakes. It’s also a good excuse to visit two of my favorite places for Asian food in Northern Virginia.

When: Sunday, September 23. (Yes, yes, I know that this is technically the day before this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival.)

Where: Meet at Best Buns in Shirlington at 10:30 a.m. if you want coffee. We’ll roll out at 11:00 a.m. and have lunch at The Block, an Asian food hall in Annandale. Afterwards, we’ll head to Good Fortune in the Eden Center, a Chinese-Vietnamese supermarket that sells moon cakes and other Asian groceries. The route is about 19 miles, mostly on trails or bike lanes, but also on a few busier roads.

Who: anyone who wants in on the deliciousness! Social pace (12-15 mph), no drop.

What: bring money for lunch and a lock. I will also be bringing my panniers so that I can stock up on tasty Asian groceries at Good Fortune.

Very much in. Sounds like a great ride. Thanks for organizing!!!

Sigh. Wouldn’t be the same. One of these days I’ll actually go on a group ride again.

Ooo ooo! Let me see if I can talk Mr. Kitty into this. It might be a mileage stretch for him, but I think he can do it.

He should definitely come. We’ll be taking a lunch break, so it’s really a 12-mile ride followed by a 7-mile ride. Totally doable, right?

Ample parking. Shirlington has two parking garages.

We are 99% percent positive that we’re in! This will be a new mileage boundary, but he sounds up to it! =D

As Judd said, there’s no shortage of parking. See http://villageatshirlington.com/parking/ for driving directions and more info about the various garage and street parking options.

Actually, 4 garages. On a Sunday morning, this should not be an issue.

Are you counting the one over the Harris Teeter? You have to pay for that one (if you are there for longer than an hour?) I think even on a Sunday. That caused some confusion once when we had a suburban (I mean likke real suburbs, Fairfax) friend join us at the theater.
