Participant“Updated information regarding Washington-area federal government operating status is not expected from OPM until 4:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012.”
I’m guessing unscheduled leave/telework for Monday, but then telework is only possible if we don’t lose power. And what do I normally do with my annual leave? I ride my bike! Maybe I’ll get out the rain cape and make sure I’m heading in the direction that gives me a tail wind.

Maybe your two observations are not unrelated in his mind. Watch out if he gets home and starts trying to find a sheltered space somewhere so he can build a fire to boil water in the middle of the storm if need be . . .

And don’t let him crawl under the house cause then he’ll have the baby under there and it’ll be really hard to get him out…
Oh wait, that’s cats.

Yeah it makes no sense. Maybe it’s hindsight but OPM always seems unbalanced in one way or another when deciding what to do. They announce overly conservative measures too early, or announce a needed measure too late.

ParticipantDirt during his first hurricane preparation?
also, what happens if this storm just flies on in, and stays a while? How often has that happened? I seem to recall a few storms that forecasters expected would blow out, only to have the storm just sit-n-spin.

ParticipantSo I missed Thursday and Friday commutes because of work travel, and now I might miss Monday too? And during a strava challenge?! I do not like this.

ParticipantRain might start up on Sunday. But the worst conditions might be on Monday afternoon/evening and well into Tuesday. NBC4 just posted a map that indicates the storm will make landfall near Ocean City, MD. The eye may not cross directly over D.C., but it’ll be close enough.
Today’s a good day to ride. Maybe even Sunday morning, if you’re not running in or watching the Marine Corps Marathon. But after that, I really wouldn’t ride until Wednesday at the earliest.

Agreed!, though here in Rehoboth, its more or less early Sandy time. They’ve gone and canceled tomorrows pet parade on the boardwalk. The sea was churning pretty good up in Lewes by the Ferry.
That’s the Weather Channel camera crew setup for one of their remotes.

ParticipantOver the evening the track prediction shifted north to a landfall point about 20 miles north of Atlantic City NJ early Tuesday morning
Five day predictions for rain in the DC area are 4-6 inches.
While the shift north seems to have reduced the likely impact on the DC area, it still has the potential to be pretty bad. Be safe out there!

ParticipantHere’s a more detailed look at what the CWG predicts the DC area will experience due to Sandy. It appears the worst will occur Monday evening through the night hours.
“6 p.m. Monday to midnight: Heavy rain. Winds 35-50 mph, gusts 50-70 mph. Turning cold, temps 42-47. “
That does NOT sound like safe riding weather so plan your evening commute accordingly.

Thank you very much — I was debating whether to go in or stay home tomorrow (under the assumption that Tuesday would be even worse) — I do have my laptop and can work here. The downside is that power is more likely to fail here than at my office. But gusts 50-70 mph + Key Bridge = No Way.
Thanks.

ParticipantI’m planning on riding in to the office mid morning and sticking around until early-mid afternoon. If the wind is really an issue then I probably wont try it but I have a feeling no one else will be going in so it will be nice to have some quiet to get some work done.
Also, new pair of Cadence rain cycling pants that I. CANT. WAIT. TO TRY. OUT. -
