They were doing that when I lived in NYC too. It sucks.

There have been spats of this in the DC area over the last 20 years. Hasn’t happened that I know of around here in 6 or 7 years.

I haven’t seen the tacks, but I have a feeling some of the broken glass we encounter was done on purpose.

    I’m with you there.

Pay particular attention to areas where non-riders/regular trail users have easy access. Think bridges alongside roadways, paths near parking lots or with easy walking access. Anyplace really that allows a perp to act and get away with minimal exposure.

I was a victim of the broken glass on Wednesday afternoon. When I saw the broken glass on the narrow I-66 Roosevelt bridge, it was too late and couldn’t avoid. It cut the walls of my front tire wide open and unusable. I wish I have a spare tire.

One of cyclists was super nice, she went by me and turn around 15 minutes later to ask if I need help. I went back to clean up all glass before walking to Metro.

Police help sought as tacks on road cause about 30 punctures during Tour de France 14th stage

FOIX, France – Tour de France officials are asking police to investigate the presence of tacks on the route — causing around 30 riders to encounter punctures during the 14th stage.

Speaking on French TV, race director Jean-Francois Pecheux has also credited the Sky Team — whose leader, Bradley Wiggins, is in the yellow jersey — for encouraging the pack to not speed ahead or take advantage of the mishaps of the affected riders, including defending champion Cadel Evans.

Pecheux said the search for the culprit would be “difficult” because thousands of fans were on the roadside on the Mur de Peguere climb as the riders came by.

He said about 30 riders picked up flats over about a one-kilometre stretch.

Stage winner Luis Leon Sanchez and several other breakaway riders were many minutes ahead of the pack and appeared to be spared the sabotage during Sunday’s 191-kilometre stage between Limoux and Foix.

I think you should have removed the spoiler about the stage winner in a non-TDF thread. The spoiler isn’t necessary to report the news of the tacks on the road.
