Capitol Hill to Rosslyn should be a cakewalk (cake ride?). Down the mall, around Jefferson to 14th street bridge and then up the Mount Vernon Trail to Roosevelt Island, then up the trail to Rosslyn. Absent traffic in Rosslyn, a clean and pretty ride.

    Good luck!

Also agree with Capitol Hill. I live near Rosslyn and commute to Capitol Hill. I go down the Mall and cross the Memorial Bridge. From there you could take the MVT or go by Arlington Cemetary/Ft Myer. Most of the route is either off street or on streets with little traffic.

Thanks so much for the input – much appreciated! Even better that most of the ride is off street.

I commute from the Hill to Courthouse Metro area daily, you really can’t ask for a more scenic, easy biking commute than that. Going to Rosslyn can be off-street 95% if you choose. Not to mention Capitol Hill is an great place to live. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Agreed – Capitol Hill is an extremely bike-friendly neighborhood, and you can get to Rosslyn almost entirely on trails. http://tinyurl.com/69eot5n

    Hi All,

I will be starting a new job by Rosslyn metro and am hoping to commute by bike. Despite living in DC for several years, I’m new to bike commuting and was hoping for input as to the easiest DC neighborhood to commute from (besides Georgetown). I’m thinking Adams Morgan or Dupont, but am also wondering if it’s fairly easy to commute from Capitol Hill (close to the Library of Congress).

Any suggestions or input from you experienced commuters would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks very much in advance.

I live in Rosslyn and commute to Dupont every day by bike. It’s about 20-25 minutes, 2.5 miles. I go over the Key Bridge, down M Street (at 8 AM there aren’t many cars out), and then up Florida Ave. Very easy. You could do the reverse, no problamo.

I wear a reflective vest when I ride since I ride on the street through Georgetown. I feel safe. The rest is done on sidewalks.

Which route out of georgetown to florida do you take? There are several… I was going through the park for a while, but now I just make the last left before penn. ave and haul up the hill to P, then a right. More work, but I find the park path a little narrow when pedestrians are about…
