Well, I only just put a bell on my road bike like two months ago, so I resisted as long as I could. But since we moved, my commute is more on-trail than it used to be (used to be no trail at all), so that kinda made it more of a priority, particularly since I much prefer dinging to shouting.
Yeah, I just thought it was funny to say that since often don’t need it at all that you don’t prioritize volume / sound of bell.
I miss my bell when I don’t have it [riding my road bike], but not enough to actually put one on my road bike. I’m fine with the commuter having a less-sleek bell. And at some points it crosses over into “elite” when you have a bell on a bike you race on. Extra elite if you use it in a race. (To be fair, I value aesthetics too; the Spurcycle does double duty of also functioning excellently.)

ParticipantMy 400 watt boombox clears the path for me. Unfortunately the people I pass have ringing in their ears at the same frequency as most bells.

Nice — I’m glad that other thread yielded some helpful suggestions.
I want to see this in action!

ParticipantI like my Planet Bike bell, which is sturdy, loud, and easy to ring without removing my hands from the grips. The only downside is that it discolored in only about 7 months. But it’s cheap, so you can replace it for aesthetics reasons.

ParticipantDone. Good strong clear single “Ding!” Cheap, works well, does not rust into a lump, plenty of mounting options and adjustable lever angles. Other than that it SuckS. :p
The original and My fav.
A longer threaded bolt will make the original fit on modern H bars. My bell is mounted to a crabon bar right next to the brifter. Dinger on one side while on the horns the other when in the drops.

I used to like Incredibells, but I went through too many of them as the striker would eventually break off. I do like my Spurcycle, although it’s pricey enough that I call it a Splurgecycle.
