Parking for other than recreational purposes or for longer than three (3) hours Monday through Friday is prohibited in the following lots:
Turkey Run Park
Scenic Overlooks #1 & #2 Theodore Roosevelt Island
Lady Bird Johnson Park
LBJ Memorial Grove
Columbia Island
Gravelly Point
Daingerfield Island
Belle Haven Park
Clara Barton National Historic Site Roaches Run Parking Lot
Jones Point ParkJuly 7, 2013 at 9:25 pm #974750dbb
ParticipantHow about the south parking lot at DCA? It is right along the MVT and is $3/hr. Alexandria’s Four Mile Run Park has parking. Might be worth checking.
Neighborhood parking may be an option south of Old Town and possibly in Del Ray. Arlington has zoned neighborhood parking to keep commuters from parking on the streets.

ParticipantYou can park in Jones Point Park and ride the trail under the bridge and up to Washington Street. There are also playgrounds and bathrooms. Drive to the end of South Royal Street and follow the signs.

This suggestion brings you closer to the bridge, albeit ever so slightly since Belle Haven is barely a mile from the bridge (if that). On weekdays, I would be very surprised if they enforced time limits. The PP will enforce speeding (it goes from 25mph to 40mph in a short stretch), but I haven’t heard of parking. Plus if you have a bike rack on the back of the car then I would be highly surprised if they did anything.

Jones Point is on the list for 3 hour parking also. I agree with Terpfan though. I’d be surprised if they enforce parking time limit if the car isn’t there all day. FWIW, I see more PP at Jones Point than I do Belle Haven.

ParticipantI guess if she’s really worried about a parking ticket then it’s just as easy to park across the Parkway from BH in one of the neighborhoods, but then it would require crossing GWP with kids–not something I would envy.

ParticipantAnother advantage to Jones Point Park is that you won’t cross any intersections getting to the bridge. You follow the trail up a ramp to the Washington Street Deck, then turn left and left again to access the Bridge trail.
