ParticipantWaters End Brewery in Lake Ridge. Enjoyed a nice Stout after a impromptu 15 miler. Stout was excellent, rich, creamy and I think a hint of chocolate. Went down too smoothly.

Totally forgettable west coast IPA called something I forgot that I drank with a chicken BLT that was mostly bread. Good thing the company was good or I’d be mad. Also for some reason Garmin refuses to sync the ride there, so i’m missing 4 miles.

Which GB? Want to make sure to give you credit for the right one.

ParticipantA stop at Denizen’s in Silver Spring. It was hopping this afternoon, perhaps due to the good weather. Opted for the “safety pin”, a citrusy IPA. A refreshing choice for the ride home.

ParticipantAnother beerneuring in which sjclaeys was an eyewitness.
At today’s blacklava bratislava lavabvavllava lalala event at New District, I got a tasting sample with 4 beers. All good. My two faves were the ginger saison and the Spotswood’s Expedition, for completely different reasons. Both took the usual and added flavors to go above and beyond. These beers are all good and I must go back more.

ParticipantI feel like I am falling behind a bit… Must ride bikes and drink more beer!
On Saturday, since I got held up at an earlier event and could not make it back to Shirlington in time to do the Doughnuts and Dragons ride, I decided to enjoy the sunny weather and head west.
First stop, Crooked Run Brewing in Leesburg. This is one of my favourite “off the W&OD” breweries because they always have such interesting beers on tap. I had the Lemon Serrano Storm, which was pretty darn tasty. It had a great Serrano flavour with a bit of a spicy bite towards the end. Just a hint of citrus, too. This is probably by far my favourite pepper beer that I have had.

ParticipantMy plan after Crooked Run was to hit up Loudoun for a beer, then start heading east and grab something at Old Ox and Beltway on the way home. I failed miserably.
I rode up the hill from Crooked Run to Loudoun Brewing Company, which is by far my favourite brewery for their comfort level. I walked in and grabbed one of their seasonals (which are always pretty interesting). It was a gingersnap saison, that someone dubbed “French Benefits”. I was really impressed with the ginger and spice flavour. They nailed it without being too sweet or too fruity. Since the bar area was pretty busy, I headed upstairs, which was surprisingly devoid of people. Score! I grabbed the TV remote and switched the channel from basketball (ugh) to HGTV (yay!). After about five minutes of Property Brothers Bliss (I do not have cable at home, so I never get to watch it), I was joined by a couple of guys who sat down and chatted with me. Small world: it turns out that one guy’s wife went to JMU and the other guy went to college in my home town. After a few more minutes, the head brewmaster came upstairs and sat down and had a beer with us. And you know where that lead. Three more beers later, and it was after 3:00 and I was getting short on daylight to make the 35 miles back to Fairlington. No time to stop at the last two breweries that I wanted to hit. Oh well, there are still several weeks of Beerneuring left!

ParticipantI rode out to Old Ox to try their new DIPA release, Hoppier Place. It had tangerine and lemon citrus and a little bit of pine resin. Medium finish.

ParticipantMonster IPA at Bluejacket by Jon, on Flickr
Had lunch with the wife and figured we couldn’t very well ride our bikes to right next door to Bluejacket without getting a beer. I got this because I call the kids Monster all the time and I did not read the description carefully before ordering. I would not have ordered a pineapple beer. They’re usually not good. This one I didn’t really like. I also had a Lost Weekend which was much better but the picture is less interesting.

ParticipantNew Beerneuring destination coming to Arlington, just make sure that you have a beer from their pilot system, rather than the brewery (I WILL KNOW): https://www.arlnow.com/2017/02/07/heritage-brewing-hoping-to-open-clarendon-pub-this-month/

ParticipantFound 6 micro breweries sharing an industrial site, and tasting room, in Baltimore. Bartender tells me they are six independent beer making operations. How will this count? It’s less than two miles from the MARC station, if anyone is wondering.

ParticipantStopped at 3 Stars last weekend. Enjoyed madness, ghost, and zombie date night. There seems to be some scary theme going on.
And Blue Jacket this weekend. Love the the huge space with all those vats. Got a flight of IPA’s and golden lager. Enjoyed the Full Fathom 5.
