ParticipantMore adventures in beerneuring.
2/17 – Passed by Anxo on the way home. Had been meaning to try out this Basque style cidery for a while but it’s always packed. I managed to snag a seat at the bar and got one of the dry ones, Farnum Hill, to try. Not bad, more like wine. I prefer the sweet ones like the Millstone which you can get at Whole Foods.

Here’s a shot of their giant barrel.

2/19 – Dropped by Atlas Brewery. On my way there, ran into some girls selling girl scout cookies. I couldn’t resist stocking up and contemplated which ones would go well with my flight. I started with Hank’s Hops, a pale ale collaboration with Hank’s Oyster which you can only get there, another pale ale called Dance of Days, and Emprosator a doppelbock with a hint of coffee. Enjoyed them all. Later the bartender gave me some saison to sample, both the winter La Saison de Brett and their regular La Saison des Fetes as pictured. Not usually a saison person but the winter saison with the additional herbs and fruits blew me away. The samoas would have gone well with either of them.

In case you’ve never been there before, check out their bathroom. Leaving no kegs unused!

Is that their bathroom or where Coors brews Keystone Light?

Hellbender flight:
Ignite IPA
North x Northeast
Grampus
Groundskeeper Islay Scotch AleSo, Hellbender has come a long way since they opened. Last year they were super nice with very mediocre beer. This year they were super nice with pretty decent beer. This is a good direction.

I forgot to write down what this was. It was good. Not as good as their double IPA that the wife got, but good.March 6, 2017 at 2:07 am #1067375jrenaut

I have NEVER been here when it wasn’t mobbed. Maybe sjclaeys has some sort of magic. This was the coffee-infused Haxan. It was quite pleasant. Even the wife, who doesn’t like dark beers, enjoyed a taste.March 6, 2017 at 2:11 am #1067376jrenaut

I don’t know, I hear that it is boring there.

ParticipantBeerneurers,
Please see the new thread announcing Sunday’s Doughneuring Extravaganza Ride, which will include Right Proper Brewing Company as its last official stop, sometime between 3:30 and 4:00.
Team 4, and anyone else who wants to ride north with us, is invited to Denizen’s after that, as well–planning to get there at/about 6:00.
See my thread for more details. edelweiss

ParticipantNot new to me, but better than I remember. Sadly, it tasted more like rye than the bread I used for my Reuben sandwich last night.

This is a Corruption. I’ve had this beer a million times. I love DC Brau because they were the first. They don’t make my favorite DC beer (Atlas’ Ponzi IPA), the best-named DC beer (3 Stars Two to the Dome DIPA), or my favorite brewery to hang out at (Public Option). But they were first, and they’re awesome, and their beer is really good.March 13, 2017 at 4:31 am #1067895kwarkentien
ParticipantSaturday: Port City Colossal 6, Russian Imperial Stout. One of my new faves.
Sunday: Right Proper Motorik, Lichtenhainer. A tart, fruity, sour. Interesting.

IMG_20170318_175755526 by Jon, on FlickrFamily ride up the new Anacostia trail – the trail is fantastic. Highly recommended. At Franklins I had a Hop Zen, which is a hoppy copper ale and quite pleasant. The nitro oatmeal stout was nice, too.
