The Gallows crossing at Holmes Run Drive continues to be terrible. I forgot about it and followed the Google directions to it. Next time I’ll figure out a better crossing.
That’s part of my commute, and I don’t think there is a better crossing. You can time it, waiting until traffic stops at the light, and then dashing across into the apartment parking lot. But if you do find something better, please let me know.

You should have read my tasting note: Wicked juicy IPA: tastes like grapefruit juice. Would not recommend
For sure! I’m wondering now if I got a bad batch since it really had a funk to it. Grapefruit juice would have been a big improvement.

Oof. Considering the cleanliness of the restaurant and the inattentive servers, that wouldn’t surprise me. Unless I hear from someone eventually that Granite City has greatly improved, we won’t go back.

Participant6 – MeadeWorks, Hyattsville, MD. SuperHy Meade. Dry and tart with hibiscus. Good!

ParticipantFeb 2 ar Maryland Meadworks. I don’t know much about mead but I really enjoyed exploring it here. I got a flight of 3. The Zanzibar was a session mead with tons of tropical flavors. The Dragon’s Breath was probably my favorite, brewed with habanero. The third was the Super Hy, beautifully balanced with the hibiscus.

ParticipantFeb 2 at Franklin’s. Got the nitro oatmeal stout. Ok, a tad sweet though.

ParticipantBeerneuring #6 – Isley Brewing in Scott’s Addition, RVA. I had their The Bribe, an oatmeal porter, very mellow.

Beerneuring #7 – Väsen Brewing, also in Scott’s Addition. I had their The Velvet Walrus On Vanilla, Coffee & Cinnamon , too sweet and the coffee was overpowered.

ParticipantFeb 3 at Fairwinds. It was too nice to stay inside and work when riding my bike and Beerneuring was an option. I got the Howling Gale, a solid IPA
Floral and refreshing.

ParticipantBeerneuring #8 – Triple Crossing Brewing, Downtown RVA after my century plus. I had the Slow Descent after making sure it was brewed on premisis, not at their Fulton location. “Brewed in the seemingly forgotten American Stout style, Slow Descent was built around not necessarily adhering to the notion of moderation – no need to share it, it’s all yours. Brewed with zero adjuncts, this beer is a full on expression of carefully chosen British roasted malts. Pouring a jet black new year, we taste fresh whole bean coffee, 62% private select dark chocolate, with a rounded softer black malt roasted finish.” It was good.

ParticipantBeerneuring #9 – Strangeways Brewing in Fredericksburg, VA. They are a little ways out of town, but the intown breweries did not open until 4 pm, after my ride was over. I had their rum barrel aded porter, don’t remember what they called it, but it was very good.

Participant1–Red Bear on 2/8, Krampus Shuffle quad and Tall, Dark, and Nutty peanut butter stout. I liked the stout better, the quad didn’t seem as flavorful as other ones I’ve had.

ParticipantBeerneuring #5: Crooked Run in Sterling
Discovered that there’s a Crooked Run in Sterling so need to go all the way out to Leesburg! Stopped by and got a flight consisting of Bali an IPA, Sticky Rice a Berliner Weisse, and Merrang also another Berliner Weisse. The order got mixed up so not 100% sure but I liked the Bali with the mango and toasted coconut and the lemony merrang. It really was like having mango sticky rice and lemon meringue pie in a liquid format!

ParticipantBeerneuring #6: Capitol Cider House
Stopped by Capitol Cider House and got a flight. 3 of them were made in house including Capital Cuvee, Pomme Franc, and House Wild Honeybee. I like my cider a bit sweet so didn’t care so much for the Capital Cuvee or the Pomme France which were both dry. Liked the House Wild Honeybee which was very sweet and strong with the Mead. Bartender also let me try their North Columbia Gold Rush. Didn’t realize you could make port from apples. Since it’s aged in barrels, it was really interesting with the bourbon smell but without the flavor, and it was lighter and less sweet than a traditional port. A nice addition to the cider scene!

ParticipantFeb 9 at Mustang Sally in Chantilly. Getting here from the WOD wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be and Google did a nice job in navigating me through neighborhoods. I got the Golden Record IPA. American style and easy to drink. Slightly citrusy and a mellow finish.
