I’ll jump in here. On 1/11 I did my first half century and stopped at Caboose on my way home for a beer, believe it was the Citra Session IPA. It was good, better than I expected, but felt so heavy after 50 miles. The bartender gave me a couple other tasting glasses for free since it was my first time at Caboose.

Route 1 isn’t bike friendly, but the Meadworks is steps from where the NW Branch Trail crosses route 1, so it’s easy to get to. I bike to it a lot– it’s so easy to stop by on my way home (and they have a great selection of board/card games). I suppose I should post a review the next time I bike there, but I always either get the Tart Gwen or the Dragon’s Breath.

I went down to Port City last Friday to meet with bmif and some of his Team X compatriots (along with some others). I only needed to check my phone for directions once on the way there, so it was quite successful. I had the Porter (not pictured), Long Black Veil, and Optimal Wit. I’ve had the Porter and Optimal Wit elsewhere many a time, but not the Long Black Veil, a black IPA. They were all enjoyable, all tasted like various types of beer, and I managed to delegate (the hiding of two) Calvinballs to two innocent bystanders.

This was the only stop I made during smb9600’s Falls Church brewery tour. In addition to some desperately required food, I got the farmhouse saison. It tasted like beer.

Blue Jacket ride on Sunday February 3

The plan:

1. Meet at the Bladensburg Marina gazebo (the one at the top of the hill after you cross over the bridge) at 11am
2. Bike the Anacostia River Trail to the Navy Yard and get lunch at Blue Jacket (https://bluejacketdc.com/).
3. Bike back north to Maryland via the ART (ride organizers Rumipumi and Historygeek live in Hyattsville so we are heading home). We might head to college park to buy things at the new Proteus if you are especially hungry for additional miles/points on Sunday.

What should I bring? Bring a lock and credit card/cash, and an ID if you plan to order beer. A metro farecard in case the weather turns unexpectedly and you decide to bail.

Can I join up later/in DC? If you are from DC or VA, you can meet up with us for lunch at Blue Jacket at around 12:15 or so, and then just bike up the ART to Maryland with us after lunch if you want.

Beerneuring ride # something

Thanks to bmif for hosting the Team X gathering at New District last night.

I tried the 4MRV-DIPA first and shared it with my riding buddy. As IPAs go it played strong. Not for those who don’t care for the serious hops. I liked it, though.

4MRV stands for 4 Mile Run Valley, by the way.

Saturday started out chilly, but ended up beautifully sunny and warm. I had an unexpected friend in town, so we headed out Westward on the W&OD to play in the snow. We stopped by Caboose on our way back for a tasty beverage.

I had the Stop Drop & Dopplebock, which is just really fun to say. It was pretty good, beautiful colour and a hint of toasty malts.

Joined Team X – the fun team – last Fri to continue the tours of breweries in VA. This time to New District Brewing. I had always wanted to go here as well. Got a flight consisting of the Potomac Paddleboarder, Ginger Saison, Northside Kolsch, and Sangriale. I liked that some of the names were based on the area. The Potomac Paddler thankfully did not taste like the Potomac but a blonde ale. All were enjoyable. Particularly liked the Ginger Saison and the Sangriale which didn’t taste like a regular red ale with its fruity flavor.fc750bff994655d5ac36284500c6736f.jpg

Last stop of the Napa Trifecta Ride – I had the Mallet Session IPA. It was a light IPA, just what I needed at that point in the day! 9e11526fa5754679aae7d68591c7cce7.jpg 28662cd3cd242a9fbf49aa32c9069a34.jpg

Beerneuring Stop #1: Right Proper in Shaw. I had the “No Depression” which was a country alt, and tasty, although I would’ve preferred a slightly darker/more flavorful beer.

New District, had the 4MRV IPA… west coast bitter, but quite tasty!

I’m new to this “beerneauring” stuff, and Calvin Ball as well, so I’m probably not following all the rules “right properly”, but I met my teammate Shirag here and also had a “No Depression” for my Beerneauring Stop #1 (IF it’s accepted – I just looked at the rules and technically I didn’t take the picture, but what if I were a blind stoker on a tandem?!). Can I steal her picture since it’s the same beer? Are photos required? It was tasty, but most beer tastes similar to me ;) Do ciders count!?

As the saying goes, ignorance of the law is no excuse. No photo, no point. As was announced awhile ago, ciders (and meads) count.

Yow. The goody-goody Steve seems to be taking a page from the Evil Steve’s playbook.
