Do you like to bike? Do you like beer? If so, this side bet is for you. The rules are simple:

1. Ride your bike to a brewery or brewpub. I estimate that there are over 50 breweries or brewpubs that can be reached by bike from DC, over 10 of them are in DC.
2. Acquire a beer brewed at that location.
3. Take a picture of the beer.
4. Taste the beer.
5. Post on this thread the picture of the beer, the location, and a comment about the beer. It can be anything from “tastes mostly like beer” to “the hop aroma contained grapefruit pith and apricot that was matched by a good malt backbone, which added a hint of graham cracker”.
6. Whomever posts entries from the most number of breweries or brewpubs by the end of Freezing Saddles wins!
7. The winner will receive a bottle of beer that reflects the nature of the competition. If only a few participate and the winner had 3 entries, then you will get a good bottle but nothing super special. If the competition is heated and the winner has 30 entries, then I will do my best to get something special.

A few further clarifications:

1. BE SAFE! No riding while under the influence. If you rode your bike to the brewery but find that you need to get a ride or take Metro home, the entry still counts.
2. You can go to more than one brewery on a ride, but see above.
3. The beer must be made at that location. Having a 3 Stars at the local bar does not count. Nothing at the Capital City in DC counts because the beer is made somewhere else (and RIP Cap City Shirlington).
4. Some brewpubs have more than one location. A trip to each location counts.
5. Keep in mind that this competition is to visit the most number of breweries and brewpubs. Once you visit and have a beer at a brewery or brewpub, then you cannot post another entry for that brewery or brewpub, even if you go back later and try a different beer.
6. It is not required, but try to go on at least one brewery tour. Fun, educational and you usually get to sample beer.

You never know how competitive some folks will get and I’d hate for an innocent bicycle to get harmed.

Relevance?

If the bicycle was harmed (or not) during the process seems irrelevant to the eligibility of the pointless prize crediting rules…unless of course “intent” to harm said bicycle can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Given that several witnesses were present at the time, I think @Emm is within her rights to call for judgement by a jury of her peers. Said witnesses could be subpoenaed to give testimony at a local brewery or distillery were judgement by her peers can be rendered, presided by the sponsors of the pointless prizes in question in order to ensure due process according to the Rules. I’m sorry, you seem to be under the delusion that this contest is run as some kind of democracy with niceties like due process and juries. IT IS NOT!

1/8 at Caboose in Vienna with fxbooks and an unexpected reunion with our favorite neighbors from our house in Fairfax. I had The Fog, my go-to IPA when I swing by Caboose.

Another fortuitous scenario where I was motivated to ride from this stupid contest AND happened upon a cidery that I didn’t know existed.

Having the house flight at Capitol Cider House. Good selection, good prices, games are available as well as food!

1/11 at Crooked Run with SMH9600. I had Home Alone, an IPA, that is described by Crooked Run as pairing well with pizza or room service.

1/12 at Blue Jacket. I missed Sarah B and the cleanup crew on the ART and hoped to catch them there. Didn’t so I drowned my tears in an Essex, a cask ESB. Really nice brew with herbaceous notes and just enough bitterness. I need more ESB’s in my life.

I am getting a late start to Beerneuring this year. But hey, there are still two months to destroy my liver by bike! ;)

So, for beer number one, while the trails were frozen, we did a nice loop at Lake Fairfax and swung by the Bike Lane and had a couple of delicious beers before heading back to the parking lot.

I had both the In the Black IPA and the N+1 Red Ale. Both were quite delicious with the In the Black having a nice balance of hops and malts. Seriously a delicious beer.

Swung by The Bike Lane after work today for a beer and a coffee because I’m all about efficiency. I happened to run into bikedavid there as well. The In The Black IPA was pretty good (tasted like beer, not too hoppy) and also matched my nitro coffee. Wondering if I should’ve gotten the nitro porter instead.

I stopped at Franklins in Hyattsville yesterday. Franklins beer is alway solid. The Amber Reign, a hoppy amber, didn’t disappoint.

I stopped at the Right Proper Brookland Production House on the way home tonight. I’m not a huge fan of radlers, but the Vintage Kodachrome Dream(ing), one of their taproom exclusives, was excellent.

Stopped by The Bike Lane on the way home. Was originally going to get a coffee but ran into Josh and found out that The Bike Lane brew their own beer so switched liquid delivery format. Went with a bike theme and got the Chamois Cream Ale. It wasn’t as creamy as a Boddington or Genesee but not bad.

Was most impressed with Josh double fisting a beer and a coffee at the same time. That’s one way to knock off beerneuring and coffeeneuring at the same time! If he poured the coffee into his beer would that have made it a coffee porter? They also had pastries so he could have gone for a triple crown. Maybe at the next brewery…41c64abae935c23ced11bed6635aaf72.jpgbf801f44de28e52552c704bc777caee5.jpg

Catching up on my beernuering posts! Had a pre-snow day drink a New District Brewery & visited Crooked Run Brewery on the #trifecta tour (along with Casanel Vineyard & Cotoctin Creek Distillery). This doesn’t get old [emoji4]dc52c71e2ee9e05daa8e66b3c4a62ae6.jpg1a5e12e6d3e0ae66e1b8baeb681da9ad.jpg

You need to say what beers you had and what you thought of them to get the Beerneuring points.
