This was the lunch stop on Sunday’s Gravel ride with @reji, @CBGanimal, @SteveO and @Emm. As noted by others, we each had the flight of seasonal ciders and artisan chocolates. Delish[emoji39]!! I default to @Reji’s superior tasting notes above…my favorite was the farmhouse cider.

The ride was a mixed surface pavement/gravel route with some nice rollers, lots of potholes, a washed out river crossing that forced a retreat back up a steep climb with a switchback, on a blustery but sunny day, with delightful ride companions (thanks to @Reji who put it all together and led us near, but not into, certain death). Long live the Faulkner writing style of recording beerneuring rides!!547324147f0d3f00b857f532380feb5d.jpg78b1ef90e8f01bd7df854d6ff2976b06.jpgff52857dfd09d0a0fd77ea1b63c04d35.jpg4ecd1d0cc0c83bc2236e553313686122.jpg

At Granite City Brewery across the river in Murland, specifically in National Harbor. I had the just tapped Juicy IPA brewed with Citra hops since they were out of the DIPA I was interested in. Juicy lived up to its name with lots of tangerine notes. Nicely balanced with the citrusy bitter flavor I like.

Can I get bonus points for the brewery breaking my bike? I set my bike against the wall and it got knocked over*, breaking the derailleur hanger. So my ride was sadly cut short.

The Apple pie cider was by far my favorite. It was not overly sweet, and still very cider-y. The free buttered rum the staff gave me as I waited for my rescue car (thanks Steve O!) was also awesome and much needed at that moment.

I gotta say, if your bike is going to break somewhere during a ride, a brewery is a pretty good location for it to happen.

Giving bonus points for broken bicycles could create the incentive for people to not take due care of their bicycles. I am sure that this did not happen here, but I would not want to encourage such behavior.

If anyone is legit crazy enough to purposefully break their bike mid-ride on a gorgeous day, then um…they likely really haven’t thought that one through.

I was joking about the extra points since it was my way to lighten the mood on an otherwise pretty negative experience of missing 25 miles of a gravel ride during a beautiful day and having to spend Monday night driving across town to a bike shop, so no worries about the points. I was moreso trying to score some sympathy beer at Thursday’s Happy Hour ;) I am never going be competitive in this one anyways thanks to not being furloughed!

You never know how competitive some folks will get and I’d hate for an innocent bicycle to get harmed.

Atlas. An old favorite. I had the Resilience IPA, which helps support some charity but I didn’t like all that much, and the Apricot IPA, which is extremely apricot-y and unexpectedly good.

Now, more than ever, Beerneuring is providing an important function in the local economy.

I saw on DCist today that, as a result of the shutdown, Atlas (like everyone else) can’t get new labels approved. As such – they can’t proceed with canning/bottling their limited releases such as the Apricot IPA, and whatever they can’t sell in the taproom may end up poured down the drain. Sad!

So you’re saying it’s patriotic to drink local beer? I regret that I have but one liver to give to my country

I’ve recently gotten into sours but it kinda sounds like that’s too many adjectives for one beer

I thought it might end up being a bit confused, but it was delicious.
