If you don’t have problems with hand numbness definitely look into Lizard Skins. It’s pricey and not really cushiony, but it does a really good job on grip. One thing I do from time to time that I borrow from my drumming days is to use a little bit of Gorilla Snot to get my hands tacky if I’m riding without gloves. You have to be diligent about cleaning your tape afterward, but it does a really good job of keeping your grip if you sweat a lot.

I generally ride without gloves most of the time and have found the Cinelli cork tape to be comfortable and tacky enough, it’s also pretty inexpensive. In a pinch I have used the Performance Forte brand which is fine as well, very cheap, but less durable.

I’ve been really happy with Botranger gel cork tape which admittedly I’ve only used for about a week now. Has really helped with the hand numbness issue. Has a suede like surface so no problems with keeping grip. Mine is all black so it disguises dirt well. Rather inexpensive compared to the other brands out there.

Fortunately the LBS installed it for me for free so I can’t comment on how easy it is to install.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Seems like one of those things where everyone has found their own happy medium, but [M]MMV. I’ll check the shelf next time I’m at the shop.

I ended up getting the Lizard Skins 3.2 and put ’em on yesterday. All the proponents up-thread sold me. First ride this morning was very nice. I’m a fan.
