2. I am a regular sized human, if slightly soft around the middle (200 lbs, around 5’7″), and wear large sized gloves. What bar mitt size should I purchase?Excellent decision. I bought them for Christmas and am loving them this week. I have always struggled with cold hands riding in winter, but Bar Mitts solved that problem entirely.
I’d say no to sizing up to a large, because these things are so roasty toasty, you may even want thinner gloves under them. On a longer ride last week, my heavier windproof gloves were making my hands sweat and oggy under the Bar Mitts, so I switched to little liner gloves.
The only drawback I see to them is that they kind of force you to stay riding out on the hoods. If you switch to holding the tops, your previously toasty hands are out in the cold.

ParticipantI usually wear large gloves and am using medium bar mitts without issue.
They should work on Campy. The ones for external cables have openings that can be zipped close when not needed.

ParticipantStop by Bikenetic. We have them in stock and you can see what size fits and what fits your bike best.

Moose Mitts are good for multiple positions, but there’s a multiple week back order wait (apparently this happens most years: I ordered mine at Thanksgiving and had to wait 4 weeks). So go see Dirt.

ParticipantMy Bar Mitt purchase has been the greatest investment EVER.
My commuter has flat bars (and so do my mountain bikes which is what I ride the majority of the time that I am not commuting), so I can not help with the drop bar fit/cable questions. But I can say that I rarely even wear liner gloves with my Bar Mitts. Even this morning when it was 19 degrees when I left my house, I was bare handed under the mitts and my hands stayed toasty warm. They do get immediately cold if I have to take my hands out to signal a turn, but they warm up again very quickly once I put them back in.
The only suggestion I have is to bring gloves with you, just in case you have a mechanical issue or need to do something prolonged with your hands out of the mitts.

What’s the price range? I’m likely coming out to get some.

ParticipantJust curious, if you buy these and ride across from Maryland to Virginia, would they be called Bar Mitts VA’s?
Sorry, had to, carry on with the serious questions.
Btw, love my bar mitts (used in VA), with Shimano STI’s, only light liner gloves even for the coldest day.January 12, 2015 at 2:41 pm #1019794hozn
ParticipantI would be happy to lend someone my size-large Bar Mitts if someone wants to try them. My PI lobster gloves seem to handle single digit temps just fine, so I probably won’t use the Bar Mitts this year.

I would love to borrow them just to try on the elBoda. It has funky mustache bars and I’m not sure what I need. Maybe if we had a January Kidical Mass you’d come?

ParticipantI might make it to that, yeah! (Depends on weekend, a couple kid bdays). I can also leave them out for you to swing by if that doesn’t work. Shoot me an email.

Same offer goes for my Moose Mitts if anyone wants to borrow. I don’t use them nearly as much as I thought I would.

Nice to see you, Henry. Sorry that I didn’t see this post earlier. I’m not on the forum as much as I used to be.
For those who haven’t stopped by the shop, there are 2 levels of Bar Mitts. The regular thickness ones are $75. The “Extreme” ones, that are much thicker for colder weather, are $125.

So, ha ha, I lied. I ordered Moose Mitts for the flat-barred bakfiets, and they finally came. They work great on the mustache bars, and I prefer the hi-vis option on Moose Mitts, so I just ordered another set.
Though you should still come to Sunday’s KM-Arl ride! And thanks!!!
