1/11 at Casanel vineyards with SMH9600. I had a class of their 2015 Carmenere. Casanel claims to be the only vineyard on the East Coast that grows this grape so I was eager to try it. It was fruity with a tannic backbone which I expect from this grape. The fruit was bright red fruit, which you’d expect from a young wine. Has the classic VA green pepper in the finish. Not too much acidity so drink it now.

@reji gets 1 point for posting, +3 points for even knowing that a “classic VA green pepper in the finish” is a thing. Total 4 points!!!

I had chard – I think. Somehow Reji remembers these way better than me! (I didn’t drink more, I swear!)

Smb9600 gets 1 point for posting, +2 points for not knowing if a 2015 Carmenere is a Chard or not, and +2 point for deferring to @reji for recalling what did/didn’t happen, as well as her superior tasting notes! 5 points total!!

@consularrider gets 1 point for his first posting on this thread, +2 points for writing in German so I don’t know how to interpret his tasting notes, and +1 for posting pics that might as easily been from one of his coffee rides. 4 points total!

ParticipantNapa Trifecta Ride Stop 1: Laird Family Vineyards. Yum!!! I did the full tasting- this place is incredible. This place is an enormous grape producer, they only label 3% of their own wines. All 5 wines on the tasting get 5 stars!

ParticipantNapa touring continues- today is a rainy day so a ride to the Rebel Vintners
tasting room, owned by 3 local vineyards. All dry wines – my favorites as the Rose – seemed today’s “Patio Pounder” And BTW, & it’s cold AF in Napa right now! IMG]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190208/f3db236a755a429554d75497b113f133.jpg[/IMG]

ParticipantMade it to District Winery with Flurrious teammate Laurie. They don’t grow any grapes there since there’s not a lot of space in Navy Yard. Instead they bring in the grapes from various growers and blend them there. Got the Muscat from California. It was nice and bright, easy to drink. Paired well with the green eggs and ham!

ParticipantAlso attempted some wineuring earlier in the week at Cooper’s Hawk in Reston. Was hoping it would be like Gordon Biersch where they make some things in house but alas everything is made in Chicago so it doesn’t count. Did enjoy the tasting though particularly since it included a chocolate covered strawberry for the dessert wine. A fun stop if you happen to be in the area.

Ok, OK…SMB9600 obviously locked up this year’s competition with her over the top visit to Napa Valley CA, so I may have to consider an alternative scoring system here to maintain the interests of the masses….
