Do you like to bike? Do you like distilled spirits? Do you feel excluded by #BAFS2019beerneuring or #BAFS2019wineuring? If so, this side bet is for you. The rules are simple:

    1. Ride your bike to any distillery for at least a Sleaze ride.

    2. Drink spirits at that location.

    3. Take a picture of the spirit (literally speaking, that is).

    4. Makes notes on said spirit.

    5. Post on this thread the picture of the spirit, the location, and your tasting notes. It can be anything, like “the spirit was clear and I liked it” or something sophisticated like @rcannon100 would say that we wouldn’t be able to comprehend. Extra points to those who use the above hashtag and name/number their spirit rides, otherwise we might be too full of the spirit to credit your entry.

    6. Whomever posts entries from the most number of distilleries by the end of Freezing Saddles wins!

    7. The winner will receive a bike ride tour of DC distilleries led by the prize sponosors, or a bottle of spirits of the sponsor’s choice if injured and unable to ride.

    A few further clarifications:

    1. BE SAFE! No riding while under the influence. If you rode your bike to the distillery but find that you need to get a ride or take Uber/Metro home, the entry still counts. Note: I had to do this after failing to be able to ride my bike after my first DC distillery tour led by those less responsible than myself. This was before the age of Uber (for those millennials out there).

    2. You can go to more than one distillery on a ride, but see previous rule.

    3. The spirit must be made at that location where consumed.

    4. Some distilleries have more than one location. A trip to each location counts.

    5. Keep in mind that this competition is to visit the most number of distilleries. Once you visit a distillery and consume their spirit, then you cannot post another entry for that distillery, even if you go back later and try a different spirit.

    6. It is not required, but try to go on at least one distillery tour. Fun, educational and you usually get to sample spirits.

    7. In case of a tie, the winner will be the cyclist who visits the most distilleries while cycling the LEAST amount of miles.

    8. These rules are arbitrary and subject to change on the whim of the sponsors.

This pointless prize is jointly sponsored by @BoomerCycles and @BeachFelipe but we may consult with others in case of any need for interpretations of above rules.

So the great thing about BAFS is doing stuff you never did before right? Like riding for miles in sleet and freezing rain and other fun activities, right?

Well today I drank at an artisanal distillery for the first time, despite being interested for some time.

Went to Sang Froid in Hyattsville with Komorebi’s ride. Drank their main offering, a “dutch style” gin/genevra. I learned much more about gin, its history and qualities than I had ever known. We tried it straight, with a little water, chilled, and mixed with ginger beer. It had an interesting peppery thing going on, the result of the rye the distiller mentioned. Very interesting place.

+2 points for first posting, +2 points for first distillery visit, + 4 points for trying gin 4 different ways, + 1 point for learning the history of gin , and +1 for posting a pic as evidence (with smiling @Rimas and @CBGanimal for +2 points). 12 points total!!

Spiritneuring #1: I also did the Dutch gin tasting at Sangfroid today. It had more flavor than English gin, and the owners were friendly and taught us a lot about the gin.

+2 points for first posting on this thread, +2 points for going Dutch, +1 for preferring it over the English (which many before have said the same!:-0), +1 for learning about Gin and +1 for posting a pic. 7 points total!
