What’s the issue with the brakes? What shop are you using?
They won’t. stop. squeaking. I bought the bike last April from BicycleSpace (AdMo) and from May – August I brought it back in three times, and it spent something like 8-10 weeks hanging up in the shop while they went back and forth with Felt about warranty repairs/replacements. (At the time, they were telling me that other Felts they’d sold were having the same problem, and Felt was dragging their feet in covering BicycleSpace’s costs for warranty repairs. So I got caught up in all that as well.) Between the two repairs all the brake components were replaced, and I know the calipers were upgraded, though offhand I can’t recall what they put on. Anyway. After the second warranty repair, they were ok for ~80 miles and now are back at it.
It is, however, entirely possible that this is due to a spill I took not long after that repair. They were a little wonky after that, I took it to Bike Rack Brookland (my usual shop), they realigned things and it seemed OK. But then about halfway through the next long ride the squeak started back up and was pretty bad by the time I got home. Current plan is to take it back to the Bike Rack. That was supposed to be one of my Christmas gifts so I haven’t done it, but I think my gift has been switched to a Garmin, so.

If you wind up needing to replace the brakes on the F85X the TRP Spyres are very good as far as mechanical discs go.
Thank you for the rec, I will keep this in mind in case they need to be replaced.
It has overall been an extremely frustrating experience. But despite this I did manage to do my two longest rides ever on that bike this fall, so that was cool. If I can ever manage to ride it enough to get used to the shifting, then I can move on to the next challenge: clipless pedals.

Two good articles about squeaking brakes (the first one covers both rim and disc brakes).

ParticipantHey all, Taylor here. This is my second Freezing Saddles, the first was two years ago (didn’t manage to sign up in time last year). I picked up regular biking while I was in grad school to get to and from campus and picked up longer rides soon after. By the time I started working in the area I was determined to do the majority of my commuting by bike, and here we are a couple years later and I’m bike commuting just about every day from College Park to either Suitland or Greenbelt. After years of using an old 84 Peugeot as my commuter/workhorse it was recently retired and replaced by a new gravel bike. Group rides and mountain biking tend to fill in my biking fix on the weekends.

ParticipantI’m Jason, I live in Arlington and work in SE DC. I enjoy long rides along the river…and I HATE the cold! I have several bikes but due to back issues, I usually ride a bent. I decided to see how long I can live without a car so I bike, run or walk most everywhere. And on occasion I’m not against taking Uber/Lyft or the metro. I’ll try to get out for at least a sleaze ride every day but I think I already mentioned–I really HATE the cold!

Turns out it’s a Renegade Exploit! This team member is A-OK in my book.

If all you can do is get out for sleaze/sleeze ride, but do it pretty much EVERY DAY, that would be cool and a BIG CONTRIBUTION to the team. There is no shame whatsoever in sleazing/sleezing. 10 points is 10 points! Think of it this way … 5 sleaze/sleeze rides during the week is worth way more than a single 5 miles ride. JUST SLEAZE/SLEEZE, BABY!

ParticipantI managed to “infiltrate” team 20 at Tryst this morning. Had a lovely breakfast burrito.
Looks like some good options for rides tomorrow. Chuck has that ride that meets at Colada at 11. Chuck, have you confirmed they’re open on MLK Day?
There’s also the weekly Lazy Mike’s Monday Morning Pancake Club at the new location on the corner of Shreve and 7 in Falls Church (starting a bit later). After that folks are riding out to Green Lizard in Herndon to see Boomer off and welcome Filipe back.
Judd also mentioned the Met Branch Cleanup effort (now at capacity) going on tomorrow morning. Runs until about 11 which might give some folks time to sneak over to Colada after. More info here: Metropolitan Branch Trail Clean Up on MLK Day

ParticipantI rode with Zach (Team 17) and Samantha (Team 14) to Colada this morning. Jason met us there. Cubanos all around! And David (who is leading my #BAFS2018coffeeride pointless prize) was there too (not in this pic and he didn’t ride there).

ParticipantThe ride didn’t end up reaching DC until about noon, figured I’d probably missed the boat at that point. Definitely going to try and make it to the next meet up though!

Glad to hear it
Decided I needed disk brakes on my commuter after burning through the rims on a new wheel in about two years, silly foul weather commuting…

ParticipantGang – Let’s meet for coffee at Caffe Amouri in Vienna this Saturday (JAN 20) at 1100. 107 Church Street NE. Just off the bike trail. Not a team ride per se, but if you want to buddy up with a teammate or another Freezing Saddles rider, that would be great. The weather is supposed to be pretty nice, so you can do some riding before coffee (Conte’s Saturday hill ride comes to mind) or afterwards (a trip out to the Green Lizard, for instance).
