The official hashtag is #BAFS2018, all caps.

If I recall, last year’s FS homepage was showing photos from people’s strava rides, but only one from each ride. I cannot recall if it was also picking them up from Instagram or other social media sites.

The reason I ask is for the photo caption contest. I’d like to see as many FS-related photos as possible in order to choose the most “worthy.” I’m not clear the best way to do that.

For now, be sure to tag your Instagram photos with #BAFS2018. I will check that hashtag regularly. If you don’t use Instagram, I may stumble upon your photo in Strava, but there’s no guarantee.

For the photo caption contest I suggest you don’t try to make a funny photo. Many seemingly ordinary photos can actually be made quite humorous with a good caption. Trying too hard often ruins the opportunities for creative captioning. Just take pictures as you normally would and some will lend themselves to creative captioning. Quantity trumps quality in this case: the more I have to choose from, the better.

ETA: I also added hashtags for the Butterfly and Infiltrator competitions, too:

    #BAFS2018Butterfly
    #BAFS2018Infiltrator

If you look at the list of Pointless Prizes (most recently updated here) you’ll see that it already includes the hashtags (as well as links to pertinent threads). I just updated it to include Sunyata’s new hashtags. I’m not generally fond of setups where you need to maintain the same information in multiple places, but I’ll let you decide if you want to continue this list.

I would like to make the Pointless Prize list a sticky, but I think that requires someone w/ higher forum access privileges to accomplish.

Note: The generic hashtag leaderboard is now live. If you go to https://freezingsaddles.com/pointless/hashtag/BAFS2018, you’ll see the leaderboard for every ride tagged #BAFS2018. This works for any hashtag that uses only letters and numbers. It is currently case sensitive, but there is some discussion of changing that.

There are 17 Instagram photos from FS participants already posted to this hashtag. Are they going to count, or is everyone going to have to edit their hashtags to include #BAFS2018?

Do I need to include the hashtag to get my miles and rides counted? I have rides (for three days now) that are showing up in Strava, but not on the Freezing Saddles leaderboard. Where do I put the hashtag? I’m generally not using Strava to record the rides, but Wahoo. However, the rides are automatically imported into Strava and show up in my Activity Log. If I need to add hashtags, I would have to go into Strava and edit the ride description. Should I be doing that? I don’t remember having to tag rides last year. But I was using Strava then, not Wahoo.

No the #bafs2018 hashtag is just for other social media.

Make sure you have authorized the FD application *and* joined the FS 2018 Strava club. If both those are true and you see your name on the leaderboard, but zero miles, send me your Strava ID and I will check into it. At this time I am not aware of any issues preventing syncing.

When does the Strava club update rides? It’s definitely not in real time, but it also doesn’t appear to be at midnight. Today it updated around lunch time.

It generally seems to be about every hour.

So there are a bunch of different sync processes. Athlete sync happens right now at 7:30am, I think … (If I’m doing the tz math right)

I will make that sync every hour while riders work out kinks (reauthorize etc.)

I think that reauthorizing will also immediately update team info, so that probably also fixes this specific case.
