While our team captain makes his way home from happy hour (probably by way of Ohio, if we judge by the miles he’s been putting in lately!), I’ve set up a Strava club. Team 4 members, please go here to join.
This is also a place to make comments on what our team name should be
What I lack in creativity I make up with miles. I think you can tell by my lame a$$ screen name that I really shouldn’t even try.
that said… The only suggested name so far was “I’m on Erics team so I don’t need to ride”. While this is funny its both false and way too long to fit on the leader board. I’m open to as many ridiculous suggestions as possible.
Once a team name has been selected ill forward it over to my graphics department (me) and whip up a few logos for the Strava club.Happy to have you all on the team, especially ebubar as that makes two #dttsscoffeeclub members. Anyone who can make it, we meet every Tuesday 7am at Kaldis in Silver Spring (recently discussing changing the day), easy way to get caffeinated and score some group points. All are welcome.

ParticipantI met a couple of you at the HH, but I’m assuming we don’t all know each other. Shall we introduce ourselves?
I’m Allan C (here and on Strava) and this is my first BAFS. I live in East Bethesda, which is the neighborhood just south of Jones Bridge Road and East of Wisconsin. I bike commute down the CCT a few days a week to a health policy job, and have lately been getting about 40 miles in on the weekend. I count myself lucky to have a wife and two kids (8 and 10) who indulge my bicycle obsession. The cold never bothered me anyway, but I’ve always (so far) drawn the line at snow and ice.

The logo would be great, except it’s not square, so I can’t make all the wording visible when it gets cropped. I’ve put it there for the moment, but will let others fiddle with it if they like.

I vote yes to the name, and will gladly rip that picture apart Monday while I’m suppose to be working

ParticipantBack on introductions: I didn’t make it to the initial happy hour, what with being on a plane back from Arkansas at the time, so we’ll have to set up something soon where I can meet you all.
I’m Carol C on Strava. I live in Bethesda, and this is my third Freezing Saddles. Before starting, I biked two days a week, and skipped even them if there was snow or ice. But I managed perfect attendance for each of the past two Freezing Saddles, and the daily bike riding habit has continued for the rest of the year, as well.
I have the “honor” of having received the Tortoise prize two years in a row for the slowest average speed in all of Freezing Saddles. I am old, I ride a slow bike, and I was so slow even as a kid that I got picked last for every team. Fortunately, Freezing Saddles rewards only miles, not speed.
I’ve already virtually “met” you all, since I was this year’s Registration Czar, but look forward to getting to know you all in person.

ParticipantHi folks, since the strava club name will likely get truncated for charts, wanted to propose naming it either just “Team 4 – BAFS2016” or at least putting the “Team 4” part at the beginning. We probably need team (club) naming guidelines. Though I’m loath to start that “debate”.

ParticipantCan we just use The 4th awakens? That’s shorter than past names and it has the number 4 in it.

Can we use The 4th Awakens? I wasted a lot of work time coming up with that nameI know we’ve had longer names in past BAFS

ParticipantYeah, totally. Sorry, I posted a thread on this. I would propose something like “Team 4 – The 4th Awakens FS2016”

It would be better if it were “the fourth awakenth.” Just sayin’.

Short enough now, or do I still need to change Fourth to 4th?
January 9, 2016 at 2:58 am #1044541hozn
ParticipantYeah, that works too! — maybe slightly more likely to get clipped, but as long as “team 4” is toward the front, it won’t cause any confusion.

Participantintroductions: I’m Laurie – AKA bikenurse. This is my 4th year in BAFS. Carol C and I were on the winning team 2 years ago when the game was much smaller. Eric W and I were on the same team last year. I ride mostly for transportation on my cross bike or touring bike, but also have a sweet road bike for the occasional fast-ish ride. I live in Greenbelt and I work in College Park (I am co-owner of Proteus Bicycles). I am a nurse practitioner and I commute 1 day/week to downtown DC to see patients.I try to do about 100 miles/week. Fair warning – I will be out of town from 1/16 – 2/14. Half of our trip is a bicycle tour of New Zealand, so I’ll put on lots of miles. The other 1/2 of our trip is on a small island in Fiji where I don’t think I’ll be able to ride (though I promise I will look for a bike – apparently there are no roads where we’re going). Other disclosures: my son (dr paulproteus) is on team 6 and my husband (Greenbelt) is on team 5. I want to crush them both.
