ParticipantThe word Thirteen in Finnish is kolmetoista. In Dutch it’s dertien. And in Danish, thirteen is tretten.
These could be other team name options.

ParticipantGood Morning Everyone!
Sorry for the delay. I’m Daniel, this is my 3rd BAFS. My wife and I just had our first child (7 months old now) so I am a diseased monster who has no voice and a cold that is about 2 weeks old. I live near the Vienna Metro, so things off the W&O and in Vienna are perfect for me, though my daily commute doesn’t take me that way really.
Team wise it looks like maybe a weekend ride/meetup during the day?
I am all-in on the complicated fear of the number 13 name.

Team 13: Tretten’in Violence
Team 13: Tretten on Thin Ice
Team 13: Playin’ DertienWhen I see Triskaidekaphiliacs I squint and read it as Parlaiment Funkadelic

ParticipantOr how about Triskaidekaphobiacs?
I go by Ted. I currently am living in Del Rey, Alexandria. My commute takes me right up though DC to Takoma Park. Suffice to say, evening HH plans much further out in Virginia than the beltway are not likely to be within my range. My wife and I currently have a house under contract, so that is taking priority with my outside of work time. With enough planning ahead, I might be able to join for weekend rides. I’ve also got a ride or two in mind in the Bellhaven area in mind that I’d be up for hosting.

Team 13: Playin’ Dertien is clever. I like it.

ParticipantWay to go Team 13. We got our full teamroster now. Thanks to all for getting all the boring admin stuff done.
Well except for the team’s name.
I need to go thru the latest posts that were submitted (thanks for those).January 12, 2018 at 2:27 pm #1081375Bob James
ParticipantI think I want to go with this name. It’s a clever use of 13, includes hoping for luck being on thin ice, includes winter element, and is a play off the common expression. Also Norway conjures up image of cold and winter more than Greece and is easier say.
Unless any forceful objections, let’s move on with the name, shall we?
Thanks for everyone’s input.

Godspeed. That is never fun. Particularly around these parts.

ParticipantIf anyone can make the donut ride led by komorebi tomorrow, it would be nice to meet you.
]Planned itinerary: meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Sugar Shack in Arlington, at 1014 S. Glebe Rd; ride to the Sugar Shack in Alexandria, at 804 N. Henry St.; finish at the Duck Donuts in Alexandria, at 3610-F King St. The planned route is about 9 miles, with a few gentle hills; social pace, no drop.

ParticipantBut, we have over 100 more miles than 1st and 2nd place teams 19 and 18.
How is this possible you ask?
Days ridden with the 10 point bonus is the answer.
As much as possible, please try and do at least a 1 mile ride a day to get the 10 point bonus.
As I initially said, I care more about participation, than miles ridden.
Hope everyone has a good weekend and is able to do some riding.
Anyone can announce a team event at any time, coffee, beer, ride, etc…

Hey, Bob. I think you confused BAFS18-Team #7 (my team!!!! Yay!!!!) for team 18. And by the way. Our team rocks!! We are going to eat lots of donuts, drink lots of beer, and ride mega-miles! (well, at least decent miles, but most days). I learned from last year that the daily riding team wins out over the mega-mile team.

Your right Alan. I knew it was your team, but saw the leading BAFS 18 title and got the team number incorrect. Please enjoy donuts and beer, but you can maintain your waistline and stay warm and dry by riding a stationary bike indoors #NOBAFS

ParticipantHello all. My name is Cathy and I live in Fairfax, somewhat near the Fairfax Wegmans. Unlike many, I have lived in Fairfax County most of my life. I work part-time as an RN in Fredericksburg (long story) hence I do not bike commute. When my children were young I used to take them for rides on the W&OD. Other than those occasional excursions I did not do much biking until 3 years ago when I went on a ride on the Great Allegheny Passage. After that, I was hooked — it was such a beautiful and refreshing ride. This is my 3rd season with Freezing Saddles. I like FS as it gives me incentive to ride during the winter when I would not otherwise ride and I have met so many great people who love to ride. Except on my work days (I do 12+ hour shifts at a hospital) I am generally pretty flexible on ride times. I occasionally get out and ride with Babes on Bikes (B-o-
during the week {I met them through FS} and Washington Women Outdoors (WWO) on the weekends. My husband and I have also done some bike touring including Bike Virginia, Bike the Erie Canal and the Great Waterfront Trail (Canada). I look forward to meeting and riding with everyone.

Look forward to meeting you and swapping GAP stories. I’ve ridden the GAP about 10 times. I usually go up 1 day and back the next, but I enjoyed the couple times I did it more leisurely and stopped at all the towns along the way. I’m from Rome, NY which at one time boasted of the Erie Canal Village (now closed in disrepair). I often bike that 20 miles segment of the Erie Canal when visiting my mother.
