Is that 00:00:01 January 1 through 23:59:59 March 19 Eastern Time? There are usually participants in other time zones.

    2) Dates: Game runs 00:00:01 January 1 through 23:59:59 March 19. All rides starting from January 1 on count, even though teams may not be assigned for a few days. If you are planning to get a super-early start and be out riding your bike as the year changes, be aware that rides starting *before* midnight will not be counted by the leaderboard. You need to stop your recording device and restart a new ride after midnight for your miles on January 1 to count. Similarly, you will need to end your last ride by 23:59:59 March 19 for it to count.

The last calendar day of winter in 2022 is March 20th, see https://www.calendardate.com/winter_2022.htm – the last few hours are in the spring. So the time should be 23:59:59 March 20, in EDT (UTC-04). That’s how the site is set up for 2022. Please fix, Henry!

It is always Eastern Time. We definitely have people who take advantage of that to ride just before and just after 10:00 pm their time, which is just before and just after midnight Eastern Time. That way, they get two days’ rides in at once without staying up until midnight. Then again, we have people who take a long flight that gets in at 11:00 pm their time and rush out to get their ride in before midnight, only to discover that their ride was past midnight Eastern Time so they missed a day. So go to other time zones at your own risk!

No. Freezing saddles ends at 11:59:59 on the last FULL day of winter. Since March 20 includes some springtime, the game ends the day before.

    Technical question:

If you have a ride that spans parts of two days (i.e., you ride on both sides of midnight), which day does the ride get credited to in regards to points?

It gets credited to the day on which it started. The only exception is that if it starts on March 19 and ends on March 20, it doesn’t get credited at all. If you’re in that situation, you either stop Garmin just before midnight or crop your ride so that it ends before midnight.

This means that if you want to get two days’ rides in on one big ride you can start before midnight, get in your ride, then end that ride and start a new one after midnight.
