You’ll have to wait until the Zoom virtual HH on January 7 to find out what team you’re on (even the team captains don’t know who’s on their teams yet), but here’s what I can tell you for now:
1. Everyone who registered by the December 24 deadline is on a team. So that means — even though you won’t know what team you’re on until January 7 — you should start riding on January 1!
2. We are still accepting registrations to have extra riders in case someone assigned to a team has to drop out. If I have enough extra registrations, I might be able to form another team.
And a reminder about the scoring system: 10 points for the first mile and then one point less for each successive mile so that the 10th and all miles after that are worth a single point. Plus 10 points for each ride day. If you haven’t done the math, that means the premium is on consistent daily riding versus just racking up big miles but not riding daily. For example … Consider someone who rides just 5 miles a day 5 days a week (so a “measly” 25 miles). Their total points for a week would be 250 points. Compare that to a rider who does two 50 mile rides in the same week (so 4 times as many miles). They would earn 210 points.
