ParticipantSo I’ll start with the quick bio – I’m Jon. This is my fourth or fifth BAFS, I forget. I have never missed a day, although I will this year due to a wedding in Australia. Me and Steve O started the FSLNHPP (Freezing Saddles Last Night Hains Point Party) which you should all put on your calendars now – On the last day of the competition we meet up at Hains Point around 8pm and ride laps until midnight. It’s one of the best parts of this whole thing.
I live in DC and the bulk of my riding is close to my house. I want to win #beerneuring this year, but Sunyata is a fierce competitor and it’s going to take a lot to do it.
So, let me know what you all want to get out of this. It’s definitely more fun if we do it together.

ParticipantThat’s two of us now.
I’m Chris Ra, and have been part of Freezing saddles since the early discussion phase, but don’t have a perfect record, I missed one riding day the second year. I am one of the expats and will do most of my riding in the Frankfurt am Main area of Germany. My rides will be be on my Kona Rove, my Surly Pugsley, or my Salsa Pistola. I should have a social rides with kayakcyndi (don’t know if she is signed up this year) on 1/19 and 1/20 and hope to get down to Stuttgart to ride with Andy Rohrer.

ParticipantHello Team,
My name is Kris, forum name is gswim18. Like Jon, this is my 4th or 5th year doing BAFS. Most of my riding over the last two years was commuting from Bethesda via CCT down and back to Georgetown. I have chased donuts, random streets in DC, and ridden midnight laps at Hains Point (thanks Jon).
For the most part I ride a Salsa Fargo daily, not the fastest bike but rather comfortable. I plan on getting my road bike up and running before the start of the spring for any planned longer road rides and have a decent mountain bike as well if anyone wants to hit local trails.
I am up for group rides!
Only one cup of coffee this AM, nothing coming to mind for a team name but I will keep thinking!
Best,
Kris

ParticipantHey Team,
I’m Rachel aka handlebarsdc. I’m a freezing saddles newbie, but have been riding for a very long time. To be completely honest, I was hoping for a winter like last winter when I signed up for this and then the last two weeks happened. Hopefully we’re back to balmy for a while now. This time of year, I mostly ride around the city on my hybrid. If we get some nice days, I may get some longer rides on my road bike in. Disclaimer: I forget to run strava half the time, but I’m working on changing that
Happy to be riding with Team 17!
Rachel

ParticipantHi folks!
Nice to “meet” you. I’m Tammy and this is my first year with FS. I joined this fun group to meet people!I’ve been riding bikes for over 15 years and I raced competitively on the road from 2006 to 2009. Injuries made training impossible and riding less than super fun until about two years ago (after working for several years with a life-changing PT in Colorado). I got a mountain bike and now my road bike is essentially just wall art (until Downtown Breakaway Season at least). I joined the Bike Rack Racing team this year (also just to meet people) because I showed up to enough Mtb races to qualify as a bike racer and sneak on to the team.
Oh, and I’m actively stalking the Calvin Ball, but so far, folks are keeping it out of central DC’s reach (I went for it under the 14th street bridge but was too late). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
I’m looking forward to a fun season with y’all!

ParticipantHey all,
I’m Rachel C (same on forum and Strava). I’m a total newbie! I just started biking this summer. I love it. I even did a century ride. I’m happy I got on a team despite being late to register. I mostly ride in the Germantown/Gaithersburg area but work in Virginia. I do travel a bit but I plan on carrying my weight on days I’m home and I’ll log miles on the road when possible.
I’m looking forward to the fun!

We Brake for BeerJanuary 12, 2018 at 3:31 am #1081317jrenaut
ParticipantI’d like to incorporate the team number if possible, but it’s tough because 17 is kind of a meh number. Now last year, last year I was on Team 22, and 22 is the day I was born and the title of one of my favorite books (Catch 22) so pretty much any number this year would be a let-down.
That said, Heroes Below Zeroes and We Brake for Beer are very strong suggestions.

It’s already on the FS calendar, which you can access by scrolling down to the bottom of the home page freezingsaddles.com or find here. If you use Google calendar, you can just copy it to yours. Or better, PM me with your Google email address and I will share the whole calendar with you.

ParticipantGreetings!
Just want to say hi and do a quick intro. I met some of you at the HH, and this is my 4th Freezing Saddles! I live in Fall Church, about half
mile from WOD mile marker eight. Been a cyclist for 36+ yrs, and mostly enjoy riding on the trails, shop rides, and WABA sponsored “urban explorations”. Unfortunately, commute via bike is not really a option for me, so I ride mostly after work and on weekends. As a gear head, I build and maintain most of my bikes and enjoying working on them almost as much as riding them.Look forward to meet and hopefully get few team rides together.
Cheers!

Since we can’t escape the fact that we’re in DC, how about incorporating 17 with a political spin:
Surprise of 17?
FN(Fake News) 17?

ParticipantCan we make up our own fake news? Make fun of Strava or something?
We are still short a few riders on our Strava team. Can we reach out to them in any way?

ParticipantLast year I thought we could look at the leader board and see where we as individuals were placed within the competition. I am not seeing that option this year. You can sort for miles ridden under the People tab, but I don’t see that option under Leaderboards. Am I missing this option somewhere? Was this scoring matrix pulled from the competition this year?

ParticipantHello Team,
I am Zachary B. I have been riding for a couple of years, primarily road, but this is my first time doing Freezing Saddles. I live in Arlington and ride mostly in the DC to Poolesville area, but am always open to new roads! I bike to work and try to do weekend and evening rides as well. I will unfortunately be out of town for 11 days without the chance to ride, but hope to log enough miles to make up for it.
On the team name, Heroes Below Zeroes is fantastic and made me laugh. Rachel C is more creative than me, but in a hopeless attempt to incorporate 17 into the name, I will throw out “The 17 Cyclists of the Snowpocalypse”. Doesn’t really make complete sense, but neither does Freezing Saddles.
Looking forward to meeting and riding with you all!
Zachary B
