BAFS 2018 Team 11 clubhouse

Welcome, Team 11! It was great to see so many of you at the happy hour tonight. Please join our Strava club here. I’ll try to post both here and on our Strava club page until we figure out the best method of communication.

First order of business: we need a team name. lordofthemark suggested “Score!,” based on the fact that the touchdown symbol looks like the number 11. We could also go the punny route — e.g., something like Bar Mitts VA, Keeping It Wheel, or Knobby by Nature. (Credit goes to LSG for coming up with these.) Thoughts?

If there are any team rides or events that you’d like to do, please speak up. It sounded like there was interest in a donut ride and a team happy hour, and I already promised other friends that I’d organize a pie ride and a dumpling ride. I’m happy to put together other rides or crash other teams’ rides too.

A quick bio: this is my fourth BAFS but my first time as team captain. I commute from Alexandria to DC, and I’m up for shenanigans most weekends. Coffee club is often the best part of my day, I’m planning to enter the Strava art pointless prize competition again this year, and I can hook you up with an official BAFS zipper pull if you don’t already have one. I generally have more fun in BAFS when my team is social, so I’m hoping that we’ll have lots of team rides and events this year.

All right, let’s make it official — go Team Elevenses! I added an avatar for our Strava club, but feel free to replace it with something more bikey.

Also, we’ve overtaken the Titanium Geraniums and are closing in on team 15. Keep riding, everyone! The standings are so close that even a few rides can make a difference. And as Emm already pointed out, there’s absolutely no shame in sleazing.

I’m planning to come for this–and I believe I’ll be dragging Steve O along. Is the plan still to meet at 9am at the Pentagon City Whole Foods?

Great job getting out there and putting in some miles, team! Just about everyone rode during these past few days. A special shoutout to aschildg and Boomer2U for getting in rides in Miami and Sao Paulo, respectively.

Does a team happy hour this Thursday at Northside 10 in Alexandria, starting about 5:30 p.m., still work for most of us? If another day would be better for you, speak up and we’ll make it happen.

Infiltrators are welcome to crash the party. And yes, I know that Sunyata’s hosting another happy hour in Falls Church at the same time. Those of you who work in Alexandria and live in Falls Church and like to get your drink on *cough*reji*cough* will just have to go to both.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s happy hour at Northside 10. I’ll try to get there a bit early to grab a table in the bar area. There’s a wheelbender rack outside, and there’s also space to lock up against the patio railing.

Separately, is anyone interested in a ramen ride this Saturday? Birru and LeprosyStudyGroup have been tormenting me with tales about the deliciousness of Ramen Factory 42, in Falls Church not far off the W&OD. I was thinking of heading there for a late lunch on Saturday, although I’m flexible on timing.

I’d also be happy to ride to Fair Winds and Forge breweries instead (I already have a 30-mile loop mapped out), lead a pie ride, or organize any other rides that people want to do. Just let me know.

Re ramen

It appears I will need to pay a visit to DMV on Saturday to renew my drivers license, and of course its located conveniently near the W&OD, so I should be up for a ride to ramen.
