Team 14 wants in on that pie ride. We will trade you an invitation to a beer ride.

Welcome, Team 11! It was great to see so many of you at the happy hour tonight. Please join our Strava club here. I’ll try to post both here and on our Strava club page until we figure out the best method of communication.
First order of business: we need a team name. lordofthemark suggested “Score!,” based on the fact that the touchdown symbol looks like the number 11. We could also go the punny route — e.g., something like Bar Mitts VA, Keeping It Wheel, or Knobby by Nature. (Credit goes to LSG for coming up with these.) Thoughts?
If there are any team rides or events that you’d like to do, please speak up. It sounded like there was interest in a donut ride and a team happy hour, and I already promised other friends that I’d organize a pie ride and a dumpling ride. I’m happy to put together other rides or crash other teams’ rides too.
A quick bio: this is my fourth BAFS but my first time as team captain. I commute from Alexandria to DC, and I’m up for shenanigans most weekends. Coffee club is often the best part of my day, I’m planning to enter the Strava art pointless prize competition again this year, and I can hook you up with an official BAFS zipper pull if you don’t already have one. I generally have more fun in BAFS when my team is social, so I’m hoping that we’ll have lots of team rides and events this year.
Bar Mitts Va really should be kept for (current or future) Team 13.
I did suggest Goalposts, using the Score! gesture – but I think the other suggestions are better.
I will try to organize some rides or events too. I will also make doubly sure I have my Strava properly ON! Sheesh.
Thanks for captaining.

ParticipantI usually vote for punny names.
I saw a team name on a different thing (maybe at bikenetic cross?) called “Sofa King VA”. Say it fast…it’s pretty punny and could be modified to fit team 11 or freezing saddles pretty easy

Thanks for organizing and captaining the team. And nice to meet you in person
I’ll do my best to participate in whatever social events are organized. I tend to do a lot of my riding early; I’m always happy to meet up at 6am for an Arlington loop (or another route), etc. before my commute should folks be looking for some extra miles. I tend to need to be at work by 8am, which limits options a bit. The early morning tends to be the least complicated time to ride for me.
This is my second FS. I played the first year, was fairly dedicated/competitive about it, and the idea of playing never appealed to me since then
But I decided to play again this year because I enjoy the social aspects and I like what BAFS is. And I’m also more likely to innovate on the technical side, if I have a vested interest. I did make a commitment to myself that I’m not going to bother getting caught up in the competition; I have training goals for this winter for getting in shape, so I’ll definitely be riding a lot, but I’ll also be taking days off for recovery.
Looking forward to a fun Freezing Saddles.

Should this theme be chosen, I might propose making it “Team These Go to 11” rather than “It ..”.
But looking forward to better (more punny) suggestions too.

ParticipantForgot to introduce myself
This is my fourth BAFS. My first BAFS in 2015 was pretty much my intro to winter riding period. I rode more miles in each successive BAFS, and will try to this year (though the easy weather in 2017 will make that particularly challenging). I live in Alexandria (and am a member of BPAC) and work in the Navy Yard area of DC. I ride a hybrid, and am far from the fastest rider around, though I have been slowly improving. I look forward to riding and to events and to getting to know the folks I don’t already know.

ParticipantRe Team names, how about…
“11th Heaven”
“Sovereign Immunity” … as a nod to the 11th Amendment to the US Constitution
“The Earlings” … An 11th century old-English term ultimately meaning” in the direction of your arse”—or, in other words, backwards.*
“The Fustilarians” … Another 11th century term used by Shakespeare which means someone who stubbornly wastes time on worthless things….just like Freezing Saddles!!!

ParticipantOops, forgot to introduce myself…I am a 4th year veteran of Freezing Saddles though I spent a fair amount of time riding around the winter of 2013 with @SteveO wondering “why on Earth would you do such a stupid thing?” Since then I have been an episodic FS participant somewhere between the “top ten” (2015) and in the middle (2016 ~ 900 miles). I was an avid bike commuter for 25 years between Falls Church VA and NW DC but moved out of the area in 2016 (though still visit and ride here enough to be “grandfathered” into BAFS2018). I travel a lot for work, so you will see me post rides from strange places with periods of silence in between. I will do my best to contribute to our team points despite my travels. And will let you know when I visit the DC area during this BAFS2018 season so that we can do a social ride together. Ride on!
