Take New Hampshire through the circle intersection with Virginia, past the Watergate. Turn right at F Street/the Kennedy Center, and follow that down to the crosswalk that crosses Rock Creek Park. The pedestrian light there takes a couple minutes, usually, but then you can just take the Rock Creek Trail south, cross the street at the jughandle, and keep following the trail under the Memorial Bridge until you hit Ohio Drive.

Have you considered taking the TR bring instead?

I have. The one time I rode on that bridge , I felt like I was going to fall over the railing. I like the higher railings on the 14th st. bridge . I’m tall!:)

Yes, it does take getting used to. But if you’re in foggy bottom already it could make for a quicker exit.

Alternatively, both 19th and 21st southbound move better than 23rd. You could then take Ohio Drive to 14th or take Memorial Bridge.

I ride TR bridge twice a day unless the White House is closed. It’s fine to ride and while I still slow down to pass someone coming from the other direction (out of courtesy), it’s no big deal anymore. The only issue would be the sharp 180 turn you’d have to make on Trollheim. And college students looking down at their phones.

I like to go down 21st street, past the Fed, to the light at Constitution. It’s a 2 way street but there’s hardly ever any northbound traffic so you can often take the northbound lane and, taking care, bypass the long line of cars waiting to turn right.

Thanks. I never take 23rd, but have taken I st East to 21st – and traffic is usually at a crawl (on 21st) to the mall. To get to 19th, I’d have to ride on Pennsylvania – and that traffic scares me. Many people turning, cars going really fast. I know, I’m new and wimpy.

I’ve heard of this Trollheim. Scary. More scary – students on phones (in big groups).

Tania is not tall, though. :D

That said, you won’t fly over the railing. In all the years of people riding on that bridge, I have never heard of someone spontaneously being flung over the railing, even on windy days. It’s one of those things–like climbing a tall ladder–that as you do it more and more it becomes more and more comfortable.

Yeah, you’re more likely to fall into traffic coming inbound than to fall in the river going outbound.

    Enjoy!

I have never heard of this happening to anyone, either. So statistically it’s actually not more likely: 0% in both cases. It just “feels” more likely.
So his comment makes sense, since we know how empathetic ShawnoftheD is.

Since when are statistical probabilities based on what you have heard of personally?
