ParticipantMy commute is 38 miles total and I usually end up doing that four days. It seems I always end up either working from home or having to metro one day for some reason. So, that’s about 150 and then I try and get in at least one ride on the weekend. There was a stretch in May where I was riding 40-50 on Sat. and Sun. so I was up at around 250/wk and my fitness and climbing really improved. Since the kids have been off school my weekend numbers have fallen so right now I’m at 163 over the last four weeks per Strava.
I’m going to try and ramp back up (and find some big climbs) to prep for the Civil War Century starting in August.
One thing for sure, my “base” commuting miles have dramatically improved my weekend group ride speeds so I’m now hanging with guys that used to drop me with ease and I take deep pleasure in beating 20-year-olds up the hills.

Participant150 miles per week riding, 30-50 miles running. Ramping up for MCM.

ParticipantStrava puts me at 70 miles a week. That’s mostly my commutes (2 days a week, 30 ish round trip). I do make sure that I get in at least 1 mile a day for the National Bike Challenge. So far, I haven’t missed a day. Ramping up soon since I’ll be commuting 5 days a week once the semester starts up again.

ParticipantMy “commutes” for coffee have me riding about 53 miles. I generally take Mondays off. Thursdays tend to be a coffee+workout day, so the mileage can vary there. Then I get in a longish ride in on Sunday mornings (50-65 miles), so I’m generally around 160 miles a week.
Next couple of weeks should be interesting; I’ll probably actually be working from our site in Ashburn, so that’ll bump up the mileage a bit.
All this in prep for my Skyline Drive Double.

ParticipantDear Lord, you people pedal a lot! Here I was thinking I was hot stuff (rubber stuff? whatever the appropriate cycling analogy is) for getting 100+ miles a week what with the good weather and all, but normally I’m somewhere between 50 and 80 (4-5 time a week, ~15 miles roundtrip if I go the short way, ~30+ if I take the long way, but–please–just tell my Bride I was stuck at the office).

Errands? I have a car for that
Well, honestly, if I am running errands on weekends it is to Home Depot or garden centers or Costco, so bike wouldn’t be the right vehicle. Small errands are typically handled by Amazon Prime or walking to Ayers.
Transportation is a little tricky until all the kids are transportable by bike (soon!), and even then it’s only likely when cycling is part of the point — e.g. bike to Shirlington for frozen yogurt. No desire to do my grocery shopping by bike, e.g. Work/commute/pickup logistics are hard enough.
It’s not transportation per se, but I do go on trailer rides with my son and we ride our single-speed mountain bikes several times a week — we go a mile or two depending on his interest/energy level (he is 4); it doesn’t “count” from a mileage perspective, but it is probably some of the more meaningful time I spend on the bike. — At least, bike rides with my dad when I was a kid left a deep impression.

ParticipantJust checked Strava, and I’ve biked just under 79 miles a week during 2014. I don’t commute as such, since I work from home. But I typically bike from my home in Bethesda to Georgetown one day a week, and to Silver Spring another. I’m active in community theater, and often bike to rehearsals and performances. And I bike 7 days a week; days when I’m not biking anywhere else, I’ll at least bike over to the gym for my work-out.

I usually don’t count utility rides in my mileage, since they’re usually only 2 miles or so…but this was Friday, maybe 50lbs of groceries:

ParticipantThere is a race across most of the US, from the west coast to the east coast, about 3000 Miles, and the record time(including resting/sleeping) is 7 days and 16 hours at an average speed of 16.42 MPH:

ParticipantRT commute is 25 the short way and 30 the long way. I’ve been happy to average 100 mikes a week and the 4 mile RT Kidical pickup from daycare helps when I only bike commute three to four days per week

ParticipantRight now, Strava says I average about 70 miles per week…
Granted, that is the last four weeks and I have been nursing injuries from mountain biking and not being able to commute by bike due to some crazy work stuff. So, based on someone’s comment a few pages back, I am going to do a 20 mile per day challenge for August. (And by putting it in writing here and on Facebook, I am obligated to do it, right? Haha.) About 10 of those miles per day (5 days per week) will be done commuting, the others will be adding to the commute on the way home or mountain biking.
So, cheers to upping my mileage and maybe not coming in last in my mountain bike races this month! 😎
