I thought I read on the sign that it would be closed through August 12.
Been chatting with folks about this. A worker said it would be closed until next year and the Daves told me that they are using it to store vehicles…

We’ve been waiting for the southbound bike lane on South Courthouse Road to be striped for over 10 months, so simmer down buddy.
Yeah. This first. Any update on S. courthouse bike lane striping Tim Kelley?
It looked like the work WA being done by a contractor so I’d assume that there was some language in the contract on completion dates.

Just imagine how much less consideration there’d be in a place that wasn’t certified as bike-friendly!

I’m pretty sure closing sidewalks/trails for storage is against Arlington policy, but I don’t think Arlington is calling the shots on this one. I’m guessing VDOT is, based on it being adjacent to 50 and the absence of an Arlington ROW permit.

Last I heard, there was supposed to be a meeting today. I’ll let you know if I hear what comes out of that.

6th St S to Columbia Pike. Repaved last fall. Northbound bike lane striped at the time. Southbound bike lane didn’t get done before the weather got cold. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s missing some other stripey bits as well – crosswalks, etc. I can’t get anything other than “it’s on the list, we don’t know exactly when we’ll get to it. Hopefully within the next month.”

ParticipantLots of extra width on that part of S Courthouse. Let’s hope they take advantage and keep this bike lane out of the door zone.

The southbound bike lane on S. courthouse road between Columbia Pike and 6th St was not striped after repaving last fall although the signage for the bike lane was installed. The northbound bike lane was striped.
I have attached a picture taken on S. Courthouse facing southbound towards Columbia Pike. It shows the signage stating that the non painted bike lane is ending.
It also appears that striping of the sidewalk across S. Courthouse at Columbia Pike also did not occur. Picture is below.
I appreciate any help in getting these resolved.

The southbound side is likely to be in the door zone once painted, but I don’t recall ever seeing anyone getting in or out of their car the numerous times I’ve ridden S Courthouse. The bigger challenge for me is the abrupt ending of the bike lane into a curb and avoiding being flattened by a bus on the section between 2nd and 6th Street. This stretch would probably be improved by removing parking on one side to widen the traffic lanes.

Sounds like they are bringing on more contractors to work on streets not completed last paving season. They’ll likely know more later this week on schedules.

ParticipantNoticed this on my way home from Old Town Alexandria last night.
Alexandria, VA: Nightly repaving work around King St and Janneys Ln
- for 1-2 blocks on the east side of the intersection, King St is one lane (no bike lane) alternating direction (construction workers with slow/stop signs)
- Cyclists approaching westbound (uphill from the King St Metro) will have to go into traffic to get around multiple construction work road signs that have been placed in the middle of the bike lane

ParticipantSomebody installed a snapping turtle bollard on the Custis just east of W&L between the two ponds. Use caution; he’s pretty feisty.

ParticipantEast of St. Ann’s downed tree blocks the eastbound lane.
Between the ponds a big downed tree blocks both lanes and extends off trail in both directions. If you can’t lift your bike pretty high, I strongly suggest a detour.
