ParticipantFYI–the next County Board meeting is on February 22nd: http://www.arlingtonva.us/departments/CountyBoard/meetings/page91185.aspx
If you feel inspired to go speak on trail clearing, here is the procedure for doing so: http://www.arlingtonva.us/Departments/CountyBoard/meetings/CountyBoardMeetingsSpeaking.aspx

ParticipantThanks guys. I found out from fb friends that I’m “internet famous”.
They didn’t mention that I brought the 3-year old and put her pink-mohawked helmet on the podium.
If you watch the video, you can see responses from Jay and Walter. I’ve been composing a letter to them in my head on my rides in and out this week… coming soon.
I highly recommend going. It’s an interesting experience, and it’s not a lot of time commitment. Plus, the farmers market is right outside (though no donuts on really cold days
)

To be fair, the comments on arlnow are consistently negative about everything — it’s not confined to biking. For people who live in such an amazing place, they sure find a lot to complain about.

ParticipantYeah, they actually started out fairly civil…that’s probably what sucked me in.

It’s slightly better now that they banned a prominent troll, but reading comments on there always makes me feel like I’m watching the Whiners SNL skit over and over and over.

What? You don’t agree with the sentiment that once all cyclists stop running red lights and stop signs everywhere all the time we can think about treating their infrastructure seriously? :rolleyes:

I’ve found that general news sites tend to attract some of the most negative and angry people out there, at least among mainstream websites. It’s not just ARLnow. Maybe because news reporting tends to highlight negativity, much more than other popular sites.

I’m relieved to hear I’m not the only one who writes in their head. Must be a lawyer thing!

If only there were an app that would allow me to put pen to paper, so to speak, while I’m on my rides, I might actually write all of these letters I compose in my head.

ParticipantI use the Memo feature on Android a lot. I have multiple virtual Post-It notes on the phone. One is a to-do list. Another has workout info (mostly for strength training). Another is for misc. notes that pop into my head, or items that I want to remember to research later on. (Online research is a painful process on a phone, even on a modern smartphone.) I also type up ideas for the novel that I keep saying that I will write. (I “jot” down a lot of items that could be used for characters, situations, scenes, locations, descriptions, philosophical questions, plot lines and more. And yes, some of it has to do with bikes, although the focus won’t be on cycling. I don’t know what the focus will be, but it’s not cycling. One of the characters might be an avid cyclist though.)
I’ve even written chapters for an earlier story on my old smartphone, with the older-style physical keyboard. At one time, I thought about writing the first novel exclusively on a smartphone. But that got to be cumbersome, and there really isn’t a point to doing that, except convenience. (I could type up text while riding Metro, but not while riding a bike.)

You could stop at a coffee shop to type up a letter on the phone, mid-ride.
