It happened and it was pretty good.

DaveK writes, “The ride out on MLK looks bad because it’s a 6 lane road but traffic was light and drivers were nice. The ride back in chose worse roads, I’d make a small change and go back in on MLK from where we made the stop for water. Once you get away from the city it’s all good. The spaghetti in Annapolis was us looking for a place to eat.”

Rod Smith and I road this http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6402324 a while back. It was surprisingly rural and quiet (sort of). PG county is a death trap but there are ways through there. you could easily cut out all the madness and make it a relatively direct route. Using the Anacostia trial system to connect DC to the beginning of the route. I few month back I ushered some folks out that way to the Bike MD symposium. BikeNurse and Bruno seemed to really enjoy the ride, we went this way http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7210991, very similar. Be careful when you come into Anapolis and take your time with the last few miles, lots of traffic. We did this during rush hour.

    Hope that helps

I did this as a weekday ride once, staying south of 50 (overlapping with ewilliams’ route). From Largo Town Center, it was basically Woodmore Road to Bowie, then Governors Bridge Road to Riva. The hairiest part was getting from Riva to Annapolis; bridge doesn’t have a shoulder, the numerous inlets result in very poor street connectivity, and it dumps you into the awful sprawl of Parole.

In Maryland, I’ve often had good luck looking for “XYZ Bridge Road” paralleling a highway — seems like these were the original through-routes. Brock Bridge Road, for instance, is a nice parallel to I-95/BW through Laurel.
