If you use the bike route on the access road south of Arlington Blvd inbound between Carlin Springs/Four Mile Run and George Mason, you might run into a closed road this week. This morning (Monday, 10/6) they closed the access road to mill it down between Edison and Park. They’ll probably close it down again tomorrow or more to put down new paving. The access road on the north side of Arlington Boulevard looks open. Try alternate routes this week.

Thanks for the heads up! I find myself using this route a few times every week, so I will either use the sidewalk/road on the north side or cut through the Glen Carlyn neighborhood and use the W&OD as alternates depending on where I’m headed from.

That messed up my commute home this afternoon. There was no warning as I came up S Abingdon. No problem, I just turned around and got on the W&OD back at 9th St S and enjoyed an extra mile of riding on a beautiful afternoon. I’ll just have to take a different route in the morning. That will also keep me from having to mix it up with the traffic entering the National Guard and NFATC, the State Department shuttle tried to squeeze me into the curb there this morning when the driver merged into my lane without looking after going around the backed up traffic.

Still under construction. They’re working west to east. They’ve only finished the first block. Columbus to George Mason still milled and rough and waiting pavement. Best to avoid.

Paving complete. Road is smooth and ready to go (except lane markings).
