Are bike wheels allowed on the MARC?

You could get away with it. I recently brought a fully boxed up full sized brand new bike on the MARC I had shipped to my office. It was a pain but no one gave me problems. That being said, this was a one-time trip in the reverse commute direction so doing it over and over may be a different thing especially on crowded trains in the busiest commuting direction. But it the wheels fit in the overhead I wouldn’t worry about it. Have you seen the size of those of the bags the tourists drag onto the MARC at BWI?

I used to ride the Camden line MARC a few years ago, and the conductors were quite consistent with bikes, even folding bikes (which had to be in cases) and bike gear – it has to fit in the overhead. If it does – you’re fine

might want to think about getting wheel bags to help make them look more like luggage and keep the grease off other passengers.

+1 for wheel bags. I once had to take a Greyhound down to college with a set of wheels in my lap – I looked like a mess by the end of the trip.
