My RideWithGPS routing can be found here. Only pitstops available are Emmitsburg, Fairfield, and Gettysburg Nat’l Park. Nothing between Gettysburg and Thurmont on the route I traveled. Other routes that are popular in the area can be found here and here but I haven’t done them yet.
Whhhhaaaaaaaaatttt??? Were you sick with plague or something? Was it the cold weather? Surely a featherweight jackrabbit like yourself could handle a touring pace around Gettysburg on a normal day.
I had a moderate case of indigestion due to overeating the night before and there was quite a bit of headwind to be fair – but otherwise I had no excuses. Just a big bonk after not really being able to eat from about mile… 30?. <12mph for the last 6 miles/30 mins of the ride - and that was with others coming back to help pull me.
So it turns out I should have checked w/ my wife first (duh!). There’s a neighborhood BBQ on Sunday and since it was going to be a solo ride I’m just going to postpone. But this one is still on my list for June/July so if anyone who couldn’t do it this weekend and really does want to, holler and we’ll figure something out. But as you can see I’m not that good at planning this stuff too far in advance so good luck to us all.
With a couple weeks lead time, I would love to do this. Sundays better than Saturdays. With a wife and two young boys, a one-way ride where I meet up with my car-tripping family in Gettysburg would work too. It’s the Wuss Plan in terms of miles, but makes for a more rational proposal on the home-front.
