    Yep, and I’m a volunteer between 6-10.
I may be working the registration desk
Or coordinating games — oh my
Or the patio bouncer — I don’t think I have the skill set for that
Or restocking the bar — just like what I do at home

There may be dancing. The theme is the Roaring 1920’s and I’m not very good at the Charleston. But I know I’m better than Blacknell.

So please come, it should be fun.

I’ll be there all night and then some. Interesting that this is the first mention of BikeFest on the forum with just a day to go. Not sure that augers well.

I am going and working the same shift as Ann. I love that the reminder email advised us not to show up for our shift drunk. I guess the rest of the volunteers are a good 20-30 years younger than me. Or have much more adventurous and less corporate lives.

I think I heard it was almost a sellout (or it was a sellout), so it should be a success. My husband and I went last year when it was in Crystal City. It is fun!

    Tickets are almost sold out.

Eminva- it’s the quiet ones I worry about.

Wish I could join you all at this fun event. I hope it will be a huge success for WABA.

We’ll be there, we live about 3 blocks away so there’s no excuse not to. I will be the only one not getting arrested for BUI afterwards…

The ticketing info shows a sell out. I hope everyone who who plans to attend got their tickets!

Great crowd at Bike Fest. Lots of flappers and ummm gangsters and one excellent zoot suit.

Rhinestones clearly prepare one for life as a flapper.

My stab at a live update.

The WABA staff deserves all the credit for making last night’s event such a success.
I came in at six last night and was amazed by how well organized the set-up was and how well-planned the timeline for making sure everything was ready when the doors opened at 8:00 pm.

There were roughly 400 people in attendance last night, a silent auction, live entertainment, games on the patio, and three cool bikes built by local shops including a wild-looking tandem with orange grip tape .

It was fun to see so many people in costume last night. I *cough* may have gotten a bit carried away. I have an unfortunate attraction to shiny things and feathers.

But the best part was seeing my friends from these boards: Mr. Casey, who ran the sound system last night, Liz and Kathy who are always shamefully witty and fun to hang out with, the beautiful Zanna was stunning as always, Dave K and his better half were. Mrs. K was radiant in blue.

I may have spotted Blacknell searching through his pockets for God-knows-what. Someday the man will have a suit that fits.

This was the first Bikefest I attended. It was a smashing success because the WABA staff did a wonderful job, a special thanks to Nelle.

Thanks to everyone at WABA for a fabulous evening! Thanks to Ann for selling me the winning raffle ticket and for carrying my booty home for me (got it this morning, thanks).

It was great seeing forum folks. Hope to see you all again tomorrow.

I’ve noticed the WABA events circle (the people I know from events and social rides in DC) and the WABA/BA Forum circles don’t seem to overlap all that much?

Maybe us older fuddies are the only ones still using forums instead of the social medias? :P

Could be! As I was telling some people on Friday night, I missed a private message on my Facebook page — a reporter for the GWU newspaper saw the discussion of the National Bike Challenge on this forum, and wanted to interview me for article. I didn’t see the message for a month. Alas, I cannot keep up with the many forms of social media. I will cop to that.

I was trying assiduously to not dwell on the fact that I was one of the oldest people there but thats the human condition, bikes or no. Its the young and restless who are out partying and the old and tired who are home resting. Of course being identified as “Mr. Casey” on the forum added ten years to me right off the bat. :p One very interesting tidbit for those who were in attendance. The dance team member in the striking red zoot suit is a 65 year old cancer survivor. After watching his dance moves I felt like maybe there was hope yet.
